We’re proud to partner on this project and help expand opportunities for Clovis residents to walk, run, and enjoy the outdoors along the Big Dry Creek Canal. We look forward to celebrating with the community on September 29!

Residents in the heart of Clovis now have a newly improved and expanded path to walk, run, and recreate – the Letterman Trail – made possible by federal grant funding and a partnership between the City of Clovis and the Fresno Irrigation District (FID). Named in honor of fallen Clovis firefighter Clinton J. Letterman, the Letterman Trail is just over half a mile long and runs between Barstow and Villa Avenues along the FID Big Dry Creek Canal and through Letterman Park. To mark the occasion, we're inviting community members to join us for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 8:30 AM along the new trail at the site of a beautiful new gateway near the northwest corner of Letterman Park. The event will include a special ribbon-cutting program featuring remarks from project partners, a memorial presentation by the Clovis Fire Department in remembrance of Fireman Letterman, and an opportunity to explore the new trail.

Continuing our spotlight series with Calvin Sanders. 👋

Behind FID's surface water system is a team of employees who work year-round to maintain and improve the infrastructure our customers rely on. Calvin is part of that team, operating heavy equipment for construction and maintenance projects throughout the District.

Calvin has been a Heavy Equipment Operator at FID for four years, following 10 years as a Water System Operator.

Did you know? The Fresno Scraper played an important role in the growth of Fresno's agricultural communities. Invented in 1885, its innovative design made moving and leveling soil much easier than the labor-intensive methods used before.

The tool helped make canal and ditch construction more efficient, helping bring water to more farmland and supporting the agricultural communities that helped shape Fresno into what it is today.💧🌾

Thank you to California Special Districts Association for organizing a great "Own the Message" communications workshop!

FID was glad to host and take part in the conversation. We enjoyed connecting with fellow special district professionals and sharing ideas and experiences from across the Central Valley.

FID's maintenance season is officially underway. 🚧

With water deliveries wrapped up for the season, the District's Maintenance team is getting to work on a range of tasks to service and improve the system and prepare it for next year's delivery season.

The team is currently working on early-season field maintenance like brushing and w**d control.

Groundwater sustainability is an important part of FID's ongoing work.

Through continued investment in groundwater recharge, FID helps replenish groundwater supplies and support long-term water reliability across the District.

Since 2020, FID has:
💧Recharged more than 430,750 acre-feet
🌱Developed 270 acres of recharge basins
📍Constructed 37 recharge basins
🚧Planned an additional 310 acres of future recharge basins

These efforts build on FID's decades-long commitment to recharge and support its role in advancing groundwater sustainability under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).
