The library was busy on Saturday! Kim and Lena went to an outreach event at a local Community Day while Mauricio and Sheila led Spanish Storytime. These are just some of the many fun things the library does to keep weekends fun for the family. Another upcoming fun event on a Saturday is our Summer Reading Kickoff Party on June 13 from 2-4 pm. You don’t want to miss it!

DelaWarm - Knit or Crochet for those in Need
Saturday, June 27 from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm

DelaWarm has created library events for community members to gather and hand craft crocheted or knit items for our neighbors in need. We serve the unhoused, domestic violence shelters, and schools throughout the State of Delaware. Warm items like scarves, hats, ear warmers and teddy bears for children would be ideal projects for this cause.

Storytime with Mermaid Tasha!
Friday, June 26 at 10:30 am

We would love to have you join us for the Mermaid Storytime Program, where Mermaid Tasha will “unearth” ocean stories through an interactive read-aloud, conservation themes, and a bit of mermaid magic! Her visit is designed to spark imagination, encourage reading, and connect kids to the world around them—which is perfectly aligned with this year’s theme! Included in her visit is an interactive story time, interactions with Mermaid Tasha, photo opportunities, and an ocean conservation discussion!

The U.S. Life-Saving Service & Lewes
Thursday, May 28 at 3:00pm

Join Historic Lewes’ Director of Interpretation Ryan Schwartz in an exploration of the United States Life-Saving Service, the predecessor of the modern-day Coast Guard, and its longstanding connection to Lewes. This 45-minute presentation with following Q & A will explore the origins of the organization following the American Civil War, how it came to Lewes, and how the local surfmen and their keeper used the latest technology of the age to save lives in peril on the sea. It is a story of public service, innovation, courage, and selflessness, kept alive today in Delaware by the collaboration of Historic Lewes, Delaware State Parks, and the LV Overfalls Foundation.

Tavern Talk: Lock, Stock, & Barrel: Arms & Ammunition of the American Revolution
Wednesday, June 3 at 5:30 pm

The battles of the Revolutionary War have been immortalized in books and films, but rarely do they capture the true nature of 18th-century warfare. As silly as it may seem to march into battle in brightly colored uniforms, all the while your enemy is firing right at you, the combat doctrine of the time was methodical, efficient, and made the best use of the most effective tools available. Flintlock muskets and black powder artillery, while cumbersome by today's standards, changed the face of warfare and would shape how armies were trained and supplied for years.
