Colorado River cuts are coming, but Gilbert is prepared and continues to work hard to ensure water keeps flowing from the tap. 💧

A recent federal decision confirmed that Colorado River water deliveries will be reduced beginning January 1, 2027. As a result, Gilbert is expected to receive approximately 20% less water from the Colorado River.

While these cuts are significant, preparing for water shortages is not new for Gilbert. For more than four decades, the Town has worked to build a diverse and resilient water portfolio through long-term planning, groundwater recharge, water reuse, and major infrastructure investments.
The Wells Development Program is part of that strategy.

Construction is now complete on five of eight new drinking water wells. Once all eight are operational in mid 2027, they will help reduce Gilbert’s reliance on the Colorado River. Since the early 1990s, Gilbert has been strategically recharging water into the aquifer at places like the Riparian Preserve and currently has enough stored to fill Canyon Lake nearly 10 times.

We know recent water rate increases have had a real impact on household budgets. Funded through a combination of water rates and fees paid by new development, the $116 million Wells Development Program is one example of where those dollars are going.

It’s one of several long-term investments helping ensure Gilbert has reliable water today and for generations to come.

These investments are essential, but infrastructure is only part of the solution. Continued conservation across our community will also play an important role in protecting Gilbert’s water future.

Before dropping off your glass:

• Remove all lids and caps.
• Remove bottles and jars from any bags or boxes.
• Place glass directly into the container.
• Leave bags and boxes out. 🙂

These small steps help reduce contamination and keep the program running smoothly.

Gilbert high schoolers are helping shape the future of our community. 🫶

This morning, members of the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee helped lead For Our Town Gilbert's quarterly breakfast as community partners gathered to launch the Year of Our Youth 2026-2027.

From leading the program to sharing their perspectives at every table, Gilbert teens were at the center of the conversation and helped bring youth voices into the room.

The conversation included an update on Gilbert's youth landscape, including progress on recommendations identified by the Community Engagement Task Force to prevent teen violence and strengthen support systems across our community.

Nonprofits, churches, schools, businesses, Town leaders and community partners came together with a shared commitment to listen, collaborate and support Gilbert's youth.

The next chapter starts with their voices at the center. 💛
