07/31/2026

Our seal coat contractor plans to be on site next week. They will begin on h12 and then mobilize to Deacon road. County crews will finish preparing these roads today and early next week.

07/15/2026

Our contractor is planning to be on site mid-late August for seal coating. They will seal coat the section of H12 that was tore up last year, and they will seal coat Deacon from HWY 34 to Ellington.

We cannot control their schedule and they said they have gotten behind schedule due to rain days on their other projects around the state.

We appreciate everyone's patience!

L63 Update. Contractor will be working tomorrow to cut in the edge line and centerline rumble strips. Other than a few minor things, the project will be finished once they complete that.

We received $500,000 from a state grant to implement safety features on this project, which includes the widening, the rumbles, and 6" pavement markings.

Project Updates

* L-63 (Malvern) Overlay: Paving should be completed today, with shouldering to take place in the next couple of days. Center and edge line rumbles will be installed next Wed/Thurs., so no pavement markings will be on the road next week

*221st Rejuvenation Spray: Completed

*Deacon Rd: Base stabilization with Perma-Zyme is completed. Seal coat to take place later this summer

*Seal Coat Roads: H12 and Deacon to be seal coated later this summer, August is my best guess..

*Barrus Rd. Wheel Rut Leveling Slurry (Mineola to L55): No specific date scheduled at this time, but the contractor should be down sometime in July, perhaps August.

*HMA Intersection Radii: An asphalt filet will be paved from the intersecting roadway back to the stop sign at Barrus Rd./230th St. North, and HWY 275 and Noyes. This will help with the edge drop/potholes that constantly form at these areas

*Annual County-wide Pavement Markings: Scheduled to take place in August

*215th St. Bridge Replacement (north of Norris Ave): Scheduled to be let in September, construction likely to take place through the winter

06/09/2026

221st St. rejuvenation spray will be taking place north of Glenwood today and through Thursday, as long as the weather cooperates. Thru traffic will be maintained, but expect delays.

Please use caution while driving our roads. There may be power lines, trees, or dangerous washouts that we have not had a chance to correct yet.

We have a dedicated workforce and a crew has been out since 4am working.

Again, please use caution and have patience as we work through the storm cleanup.

Hutchings Ave at 415th St will remain closed until further notice. A severe sink hole has developed alongside a culvert, creating a very dangerous situation.

Update #2: Contractor plans to begin Monday next week, NOT tomorrow.

L-63 (south of Malvern) Project Update:

The project has been on hold as the County, Iowa DOT, and Contractor worked through some issues. It has been determined and verified that some testing results were outside of the specification limits. It is unclear as to exactly what occurred, but what is clear is that the noncomplying material has to be removed and replaced.

Beginning on Wednesday, 06/03, the contractor will be back on site to continue on with the project.

This situation highlights the importance of inspectors, material testing, and specifications to ensure that construction matches design.

We appreciate everyone's patience as we navigated the situation carefully.

And so it begins!
If you CAN avoid Deacon Rd today that would be great! We can accommodate people getting in and out of her homes but less traffic will allow our crews to work more efficiently.

Ideally, we want 72 hours of rain-free weather to allow for cure time of the base stabilization material. We plan to do a half mile today and keep an eye on the weather before we do an additional segment.
