I washed my strawberries on Tuesday while preparing supper. They’ve made a great snack for when I’m bored and a side of fruit in the mornings with breakfast.

The opioid epidemic continues to rise in America.... Depending on your condition, the location of your pain, and its severity, there may be other pain management strategies available besides medication. If you find yourself automatically reaching for the pill bottle, speak with your doctor about whether any of these therapies might benefit you.

One of the main reasons for the growing addiction to pain medicine is the ease at which it is often prescribed. Yet, depending on a person’s type and severity of pain, there may be nondrug options available that can help control, manage, and pe...

Why You Should Create a Personal Health Record
@BerkeleyWell Have you ever struggled to answer questions from your doctor about your health history because you can’t recall certain details, such as dates or test results? If so, keeping a personal health record (PHR) might serve you well.

You can use a personal health record (PHR) to keep track of your health and make informed decisions with your doctor, who can also benefit from reviewing your PHR—especially if it contains information he or she doesn’t have immediate access to.

Cholesterol Guidelines: What's New?

New ACC/AHA guidelines, released in November 2018, keep the 2013 framework but add steps to further personalize risk assessment and the decision process about treatment. They also emphasize more that when it comes to LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, lower is better—sometimes much lower—especially for people who already have CVD or who have multiple risk factors for it. To achieve this greater LDL lowering, the guidelines include the option of adding non-statin drugs for people at high risk.

Travel safely this holiday weekend and observe the new travel laws. Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know the Texas Move Over/Slow Down law requires motorists to move over or slow down when certain vehicles are stopped on the side of the road with emergency lights activated? These include police, fire, EMS, Texas Department of Transportation vehicles and tow trucks.

Specifically, the law states that a driver must either:
* Vacate the lane closest to the applicable vehicles stopped on the side of the road (if the road has multiple lanes traveling in the same direction) or
* Slow down to 20 mph below the speed limit. (If the speed limit is below 25 mph, the driver must slow down to 5 mph)

Drivers should only move over if they can do so safely and legally; otherwise, they should slow down.

We encourage motorists to show the same courtesy to fellow drivers stopped along the roadways. Let’s all get home safely.
