It is a myth that dyslexia is reading & writing letters backwards! 🚫
The definition of dyslexia according to the IDA is “Dyslexia is a specific learning disability characterized by difficulties in word reading and/or spelling that involve accuracy, speed, or both and vary depending on the orthography. These difficulties occur along a continuum of severity and persist even with instruction that is effective for the individual’s peers.”

Irlen Syndrome!! It can affect the way the brain processes visual information and it doesn’t look the same for everyone.

For some, it shows up as reading difficulties. For others, it may be light sensitivity, headaches, trouble focusing, or difficulty with depth perception.

If any of these sound familiar, it may be worth taking a closer look. These symptoms can have several causes, but Irlen Syndrome is one possibility that often goes unrecognized.

🔎 Take the Irlen Syndrome Self-Test to see if your symptoms may be consistent with Irlen Syndrome.

Comment ‘TEST’ below and we will send you a message or visit the link in our bio to get started. You may discover an explanation for something you’ve struggled with for years. 💜

Community Partner Highlight:

Did you know that almost 1 in 5 children has dyslexia? Identification, testing, & intervention are often hard to access and unaffordable for dyslexia and other learning disabilities.

Thankfully, the Dyslexia Foundation of Western Colorado is doing something about that. They provide many services, including screening and assistive technologies, on a sliding scale to make care more accessible. On top of this, they also participate in advocacy and offer trainings and resources for parents and teachers to fully support each child.

We are proud to partner with the Dyslexia Foundation and have them as one of our Community Impact Fund grantees. You can learn more about their organization and services at: https://www.dyslexiaco.org/

Thank you for all you do, Dyslexia Foundation of Western Colorado!

One hundred years ago today, on October 14, 1926, Winnie-the-Pooh was first published. Generations of children have curled up with Pooh, Piglet and the Hundred Acre Wood, and many of us still have a well-loved copy on the shelf. Happy 100th birthday, dear old bear.

Hello Friends
I would like to reintroduce myself as it has been some time and a lot has changed!
My name is Kellie Turner. I am wife to my pastor husband Eric and mom to two beautiful in daughters. Samantha is 24 and Bailey is 22. I live on 10 beautiful acres in the Redlands with 2 crazy dogs and 7 chickens. I love to garden, read and knit in my spare time.
I homeschooled both of my girls throughout their education journey. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with level 2 autism as well as a laundry list of other learning and sensory challenges in 2015. She “socially “graduated from MVCS in 2022 in addition to successfully completed not one but two 18-21 transitional programs and received her diploma in 2025. She works twice a week at Michael’s Craft store and after much help from job coaches and DVR she is very independent in that job. We are over the moon proud of her!
After retiring from homeschooling, I took on the overwhelming task of sorting through years of curriculum and resources and eventually opened the Special Needs Resource Library in the fall of 2022. I went back to work for a few years and gained invaluable experience as a classroom teaching assistant and worked in the intervention department for a year mostly working with students who struggle in reading.
This new season has me operating the Resource library on a regular basis offering Community Resource literature, advice from a special needs mom who gets it and tutoring services. My goal is to create a safe space for parents and guardians of children with special needs can come and gain information and resources to hopefully help them in their sometimes difficult journey. I would love to connect with you!! The library is open by appointment. Please message me if you would like to take a tour or just chat. I look forward to hearing from you!

Blessings
