💕 Remembering Dolly Parton through our collection 💕

Today, we remember Dolly Parton. Not only for her incredible music and storytelling, but for the countless lives she touched through her generosity and love of reading.

In 1995, Dolly founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write. What began as a small program in her home county grew into a worldwide literacy initiative providing free, age-appropriate books to children from birth to age five.

For those of us who work in libraries, Dolly’s belief that every child deserves access to books and the chance to fall in love with reading is a particularly special part of her legacy. 📚❤️

Until Next Summer… 📚

And just like that, summer is coming to an end! Tomorrow, many of our little patrons will trade library days and summer adventures for backpacks, classrooms, and a brand new school year. 🥹💛

What a summer it has been! From Unearth a Story adventures and science experiments to crafts, animal visitors, magic, exotic fruit tasting, didgeridoos, volcanoes, painting & planting, and so much more; we’ve loved learning and exploring with all of you! 🌎🦕🎨🔬

Thank you to every child and family who joined us, tried something new, earned a badge, picked up a book, or simply stopped by. You made our summer so special. ❤️

As you head back to school, keep asking questions, exploring, creating, and reading, of course!

Have a wonderful first day, little readers! We hope to see you at our upcoming programs. We’ve got author visits and exciting things coming up in September!
