Looking past this summer, state water managers worry about what might happen should this coming winter’s snowpack fall below the average. The state needs three or four years of average or above-average snowfall to recover, (state engineer Jason) Ullmann said.

At a meeting of water managers, the head of Colorado’s Division of Water Resources compared the state to Mordor — the barren, ash-covered domain of the villain in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

Did you know Central Colorado Water holds senior water rights in 34 ditch and reservoir companies? 💧

Central began purchasing senior water rights in the 1970s. Today, this water helps fill reservoirs and recharge ponds and directly supplies the South Platte River.

Central also leases water from several municipalities to help meet augmentation needs. Together, these water supplies support a more reliable water system for farms and communities across the region.

The Weld County Fair celebrates the people, traditions and hard work that make agriculture such an important part of the community.

The fair, now in its 108th year, features livestock shows, 4-H projects, local food, exhibits and family activities. It also reflects how central agriculture is to Weld County. The county ranks among the nation’s leading food-producing counties and generates more than $1.5 billion in agricultural production each year.

Thank you to Weld County Government, the Weld County Fair Board, Weld County 4-H and Weld County CSU Extension for helping make this community tradition possible.

Join the community July 18-27 at Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley.
