Thrivent Members: Do you have Action Team dollars to use?

If you have unused Thrivent Action Team dollars, you can put up to $250 toward a service project benefiting St. John’s Ministries! And we have plenty of ways those dollars can make a difference.

Right now, some of our biggest needs include:

☕ Coffee supplies — regular & decaf coffee, creamer and sugar
🧦 Monthly wish-list essentials — socks, underwear, sweatpants, razors, deodorant and more
🍽️ Meal supplies — paper plates, bowls, 9 oz. plastic cups, 8 oz. coffee cups, napkins and plastic utensils

You can apply for a Thrivent Action Team, receive your Community Impact Card with up to $250 in seed money, and use those funds to purchase items our guests need every day.

What a morning! ☕️

Last week, Lydia and Brooke had the honor of speaking with the Green Bay Area Retired Men's Club and 90 men showed up to hear about St. John’s Ministries!

The Green Bay Retired Men’s Club has been a part of our community since 1972 and now boasts more than 250 active members. We were grateful to spend some time with 90 of them sharing about the work happening at St. John’s Ministries, answering questions about our services, and talking honestly about what it can look like to experience homelessness and housing instability in our community.

Even better? We got to cast a little vision for the many ways community members can get involved - whether through volunteering, donating, building connections, or simply better understanding the challenges our neighbors are facing.

We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect with groups who are curious, engaged, and willing to ask good questions. Thank you, Green Bay Retired Men’s Club, for welcoming us! 💙

The words from guests at our Stability Shelter for Women remind us that shelter is about far more than providing a bed. It’s about helping people feel safe enough to move forward.

The Stability Shelter for Women is part of a broader effort to strengthen St. John’s Ministries’ year-round response to homelessness. By adding the Stability Shelter for Women to our Safe Sleep and Emergency Shelter services, we're deepening support for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Additionally, expanded hours at our daytime resource centers, along with increased daytime access at both shelters, are helping more people access meals, showers, clothing, hygiene supplies, case management, and connections to community resources.

Working at an emergency shelter takes more than completing a checklist of tasks. It takes patience. Good communication. A calm presence. The ability to listen. And a willingness to meet people where they are.

Our seasonal Support Staff and Security Staff play an important role in creating the environment our guests experience each night - one where they are welcomed, treated with dignity, and able to access a safe place to sleep.

You might help someone check in, answer a question, navigate a difficult moment, complete a nightly task or spend a few minutes talking with someone.

If you have a strong desire to serve others and want work that has a meaningful impact in our community, consider joining our team for the upcoming cold weather season.

We’re currently hiring seasonal Support Staff and Security Staff.

Training begins before our shelters open November 1.

Executive Director, Jesse Brunette and Alderman Doug Orlowski recently spent a morning together at St. John's Ministries Men's Shelter discussing operations, services offered, and the population we serve. (Doug Orlowski for GB City Council, District 5)

Alder Orlowski is familiar with St. John's Ministries and was surprised to learn about the wide range of services throughout the year, including the Lasting Change Program which provides aftercare housing support for men and women, some of whom live in his district.

We enjoy walking alongside the community and drawing neighbors and leaders closer to the mission of St. John's Ministries. Thank you for joining us, Alderman.

St. John’s Ministries continues to grow our services, deepen our support and walk alongside people experiencing homelessness and housing instability in greater Green Bay.
