We are grateful to receive a grant valued at over $30,000 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to support our emergency response efforts. This funding was used to purchase a new set of extrication equipment, helping ensure our department is better equipped to serve the Hartland and Deerfield Communities. Thank you to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, our local Firehouse Subs restaurant and the generous donors who made this possible!

This week on Meet Our Member Monday, we're doing things a little differently! Instead of introducing just one member, we're proud to introduce all of our current recruits:

Zosia Arnold, Trevor Bratt, Charlie Hartline-Eaken, Ronan Poe, Gavin Wallace

These five recruits have already shown an incredible amount of dedication to the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority. Each of them has put in more than 500 hours of training during their fire academy as they work toward earning their Firefighter I & II certifications.

And they're not stopping there! Many of our recruits are also working toward their EMT licenses and National Registry EMT certification, adding another important skill set to their future careers in the fire service adding another 200 hours onto their training.

Trevor and Gavin recently completed the Livingston County Fire Academy, successfully completing the rigorous training required to take the next step in their careers. The Livingston County Fire Academy will begin another class in November, giving future firefighters another opportunity to start their journey into the fire service.

Zosia, Ronan, and Charlie all got their start through the Howell High School Fire Academy, attending during their junior or senior years of high school. Programs like this are an incredible way to introduce young people to the fire service and give them the foundation they need to continue their training.

We couldn't be more proud of this group. Watching the next generation of firefighters put in hundreds of hours of training, sacrifice their time, and push themselves to learn new skills is something special.

We know how much work it takes to get to that black helmet, and we can't wait to see each of you reach that milestone and start riding the trucks as unrestricted members of our crew!

And we're not done growing! We also have two new recruits joining the HDFA family who are currently signed up for this year's fire academy. We are always excited to welcome new members to our team and continue building the next generation of firefighters.

To our recruits: keep working, learning, asking questions, and pushing yourselves. Your hard work is already showing, and we're excited to see where it takes you!

Congratulations, Gavin Wallace & Trevor Bratt!
The Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority is proud to recognize Gavin Wallace and Trevor Bratt on the successful completion of both the Livingston County Fire Academy and EMT program!
Over the past year, Gavin and Trevor have dedicated more than 500 hours to classroom instruction, hands-on training, practical skills, testing, and countless evenings and weekends preparing themselves to serve our community.
Becoming a firefighter and EMT requires much more than simply completing a course. It takes commitment, sacrifice, discipline, and dedication. Balancing more than 500 hours of training with work, family, and everyday responsibilities is a significant accomplishment and speaks volumes about their willingness to serve.
Completing the academy and EMT program is an important milestone, but it is also just the beginning. Gavin and Trevor will now continue building their skills, knowledge, and experience as they begin the next chapter of their fire service careers.
We are extremely proud of everything Gavin and Trevor have accomplished over the past year, and we are even more proud to have them as members of the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority!

Members of the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority recently joined firefighters from across Livingston County for specialized Grain Bin Rescue Training.
Agriculture remains an important part of many of the communities we serve, and grain storage operations present unique hazards that require specialized equipment, training, and a coordinated response. Incidents involving grain bins can quickly become complex technical rescues, making preparation and teamwork between departments critical.
The training provided members of the Livingston County Technical Rescue Team and participating departments with hands-on experience in grain entrapment rescue techniques and the specialized equipment used during these incidents.
The program was presented by SATRA and made possible through grant funding secured by the Livingston County Farm Bureau.
Training together before an emergency helps ensure that when specialized resources from across the county are needed, we can respond as one coordinated team.
We appreciate everyone who worked to bring this valuable training opportunity to Livingston County and the continued support of our agricultural and public safety communities.

Hazardous materials incidents require firefighters to recognize hazards, understand the risks, and make calculated decisions to protect both responders and the public. But when a life is immediately at risk, crews may also be faced with the need to act quickly.

This week, Hartland Area Fire crews focused on Hazardous Materials Rescue Operations, including situations where an immediate rescue may be necessary when lives are at stake.

Crews trained to rapidly evaluate the hazard, identify appropriate protective measures, control the scene, and weigh the risks of entry against the urgency of rescuing a viable victim. These situations require firefighters to balance speed with discipline—taking calculated risks when there is an opportunity to save a life while avoiding unnecessary exposure.

HazMat incidents may be low-frequency events, but they can carry significant consequences. Training helps our firefighters recognize when to slow down, when to call for specialized resources, and when circumstances require immediate action.
