It’s always exciting to see a Helotes business grow—and even more exciting when that growth comes from the hard work, creativity and passion of local entrepreneurs.

I was wonderful to see the recent MySA article highlighting Spread the Loaves Bakery and the expansion of their business with a new Spread the Loaves Market & Deli in their former location at The Shops at Old Town Helotes.

Sophie and Justin have poured so much into building Spread the Loaves, and it shows in everything they do. Their bakery items are absolutely delicious, and they have created a business that is not only successful but also adds something special to our community.

As a City of Helotes Council Member and Helotes Economic Development Corporation Board Member, one of the things I love most about serving Helotes is seeing local businesses invest in our community, grow, and create new opportunities. I’m especially looking forward to the grand opening of the Spread the Loaves Market & Deli and seeing this next chapter for Spread the Loaves Bakery unfold in Old Town Helotes.

Thank you, Sophie and Justin, for choosing Helotes to grow your business and for continuing to invest in our community. We are so fortunate to have entrepreneurs like you who bring talent, creativity and heart to our local business community! 🥖❤️

The bakery’s next move is happening just 100 feet from its new home.

It was a pleasure spending the morning with Tommy and Robbie Cappell of Saving A Hero's Place. Every visit leaves me inspired, and I always come away learning something new about the incredible work this Helotes nonprofit is doing for the families of our fallen heroes. I'm looking forward to sharing their story in an upcoming issue of Helotes Highlights Newspaper.

Congratulations to the Greater Helotes Little League Softball All-Stars on an incredible season!

Our Greater Helotes Little League Softball team represented Helotes, Texas on the biggest stage, and earned a trip to the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina, where they were one of 12 softball teams representing communities all around the world. While the world championship wasn't in the cards this year, it was still an extraordinary accomplishment to be among the best teams in the world! It was so exciting to watch the World Series games and cheer on my hometown team.

Congratulations, as well, to our Greater Helotes Little League Junior Softball team for an outstanding season, too, finishing as the 2026 Texas West State Champions. Your hard work, dedication, and teamwork earned you a championship season, and we are so proud of you, too!

To every player, coach, family member, volunteer, and supporter of the Greater Helotes Little League—thank you for your hard work and dedication!

And to the players, thank you for your commitment, perseverance, and love of the game. You represented Helotes with class, heart, and determination every step of the way.

What an unforgettable GHLL season—you made Helotes incredibly proud!! 🥎❤️🌽

Have you ever wanted to share an idea or voice a concern about something happening in Helotes?

In this month's “Town Talk” column in Helotes Highlights Newspaper, I take a closer look at "Citizens to Be Heard," the public comment period at the beginning of the city’s open meetings. It's one of the most important ways Helotes’ residents and business owners can participate in local government and help shape the future of our community.

Whether you're passionate about public safety, parks, roads, development, city services, or another local issue, your voice matters. I hope this column encourages you to attend City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission meetings and get involved.

After all, the best decisions are made when the community is part of the conversation.

The City of Helotes will hold two public hearings to receive public comments on a request from City Staff to amend Municipal Code of Ordinances Chapter 98 Zoning, Article XI Telecommunication Facilities by defining and authorizing telecommunication facilities within residential districts with a specific City Council Use Permit.

Currently, the zoning ordinance prohibits the placement of certain telecommunications facilities within residential districts, even when such infrastructure may be necessary to provide reliable utility and communication services. The proposed amendment establishes a review process that allows these facilities to be considered on a case-by-case basis while maintaining City Council oversight.

The public hearings will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers at 12951 Bandera Road on the following dates:

*️⃣ Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 7 p.m. – Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting

*️⃣ Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 7 p.m. – City Council Meeting
