13 Years in Our Hearts, Never Forgotten

Today, we remember and honor our beloved former Fire Chief, William โBillโ Purifoy, on the 13th anniversary of his passing.
Bill was more than a Fire Chief. He was a gentle giant, a mentor, a friend, and a dedicated public servant who truly loved his community. His heart was as big as his presence, and his passion for the fire service was evident in everything he did.
He believed in passing on his knowledge, teaching others how to fight fires, and helping the next generation of firefighters become the best they could be. He didnโt just teach people how to do the job โ he helped shape firefighters, build confidence, and instill the importance of teamwork, courage, and service.
His legacy lives on in every firefighter he mentored, every lesson he taught, every life touched, and every call answered by those who continue to serve.
Though 13 years have passed since we said goodbye, the impact Bill made on Homestead and the fire service will never be forgotten. The uniform may have been hung up, and the years may keep passing, but the memories, the lessons, and the love he left behind remain forever.
Today, we honor not only the Chief he was, but the man behind the badge โ a gentle giant whose dedication, kindness, and love for his community made a lasting difference.
Once a Chief, always a Chief. Forever a part of Company 171.
Rest easy, Chief Purifoy. Thank you for your service, your leadership, your friendship, and the legacy you left behind. Your brothers and sisters in the fire service will continue to carry the torch.
