In celebration of 30 years of service to our community, Munhall Area Prehospital Services (M.A.P.S.) is proud to offer FREE CPR certification classes for Munhall and Homestead residents.

💲 Cost:
• Munhall & Homestead Residents — FREE
• Non-Residents — $100 per student

As part of our mission to make Munhall and Homestead the safest places to have a medical emergency, we want to certify as many community members as possible with lifesaving CPR skills.

Last night, 171 Engine arrived to find heavy fire showing from a two-story end of the row vacant dwelling. While the bulk of the fire was being knocked down in the two vacant units, crews from 171 Engine and 203 Engine were making entry into the exposure when a violent explosion occurred, pushing members off the front porch and causing minor burns to one firefighter.

The Engine crew cleaned up under the bridge this morning, and washed away all of the winter debris!

Early this afternoon, units were dispatched for a partial building collapse with 1 reported male trapped under debris. 171 Squad and Chief arrived on scene, along with EMS unit 510 confirming 1 Patient trapped under a pile of bricks between 2 houses. The patient was quickly extricated and transported to the hospital.

Early this afternoon, 171 Engine and Truck operated on a three-alarm fire in the borough of Braddock.

The firehouse pole was invented in 1878 by Captain David Kenyon of Chicago’s Engine Company No. 21. Captain Keyon wanted to speed up emergency response times and replace slow, narrow, and dangerous spiral staircases.

Our firehouse pole was 1 of 2 fire poles installed in one of our original fire stations in the early 1900s. When the new firehouse was built in the early 2000s This pole was installed and the other fire pole was donated to Swissvale Fire Department. Over 120 years later, members polish and use this piece of history that stays with us!
