Partners In Development Foundation Founded in 1997, PIDF provides free programs in the areas of social service, education, environmental sustainability, and Hawaiian language and culture.

Partners in Development Foundation (PIDF) empowers families to navigate social challenges and to grow self-resiliency, vibrancy, and healthy, secure communities in Hawaiʻi. E mālama i ka ‘ohana, ola ke kaiāulu, care for the family, and the community lives. From our beginnings in 1997, Partners in Development Foundation draws on ʻike kupuna, ancestral wisdom and knowledge, to meet the current challenges facing Hawaiʻi. We serve the needs of young keiki, their caregivers, and economically vulnerable youth and families in the Hawaiian community to overcome systematic disparities and historical trauma. Our programs are guided by time-tested values and practices that honor our kuleana for people and place in caring for our islands and communities. E ola ka ‘ohana, may the family thrive. It’s Community School Coordinator Appreciation Week! 🎉 So we’re honoring our awesome Piha Me Ka Pono team all week with stories of how they’re giving back to their communities.

We’re celebrating the incredible coordinators who show up for haumāna, ʻohana, and schools every day, connecting their communities with the resources and support that help their keiki thrive.

🤝 From surveying her community to working hands-on alongside partners like Vibrant Hawaiʻi and Hāmākua Health, Kimi Vakaʻuta listens to what Kohala Middle School families need and then gets to work finding ways to meet those needs!

🍎 Thanks to Maunaloa Elementary School’a partnership with Maui Food Bank, Omi Seumalo puts snacks into students’ hands each day, helping make sure keiki have something to eat when they need it.

🌱 A bus for a field trip, a shed for the school garden, or a new pair of slippahs for a student, Shonna Ontiveros has a knack for finding the right community partner to meet the needs of Kealakehe Intermediatw School!

🎉 Shelley David keeps resources flowing into Kealakehe Elementary School, securing donations from backpacks and school supplies to monthly food pantry items and raising funds to help provide meals at family nights in her hui!

🎓 Through home visits, family partnerships, and opportunities that prepare haumāna for what comes next, Liza Dela Cruz Monsalve walks alongside Kohala High School students from registration all the way to graduation.

💚 Heidi Ilyavi makes sure Waimea Elementary families get the support they need, from sending home weekend food bags to connecting families with community services and resources!

September is National Baby Safety Month and we want to share a few simple reminders that can make a big difference for your little ones. 💚

Safe Sleep. 😴 Always place your baby on their back to sleep, on a firm flat surface, free of pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals. A bare sleep space is a safe sleep space.

Car Seat Check. 🚗 Did you know most car seats are installed incorrectly? Firefighters, police officers, and other trained community members offer free car seat inspections to make sure your keiki is riding safely. Find a free inspection station near you at nhtsa.gov.

Baby Proof Your Home. 🏠 Get down to your baby's level and look around. Cover electrical outlets, secure heavy furniture to walls, and keep small objects out of reach.

Ke K**a Pono is a Safehouse program for adjudicated young men ages 14 to 17 on Oʻahu. For three to six months, up to 12 young men live together in a safe, nurturing environment where they are not written off but genuinely invested in.

That investment looks like on-site schooling and credit recovery. It looks like mentoring, trade skills, and carpentry. It looks like working in the lo‘i with and getting their hands in the soil at Kupa ‘Aina. It looks like family reunification and cultural grounding rooted in Native Hawaiian values.

Behind every book we place in a keiki's hands is someone who sat down and decided that story was worth telling. Today we want to honor some of the authors whose work lives in our programs and in the homes of the families we serve. 📚

Mahalo nui to Jan and Judy Dill, Gail and Garrett Omoto, and Pua Aquina for the stories, the characters, and the worlds you have created for our keiki. Your mo‘olelo matter more than you know.

The late, great, and fabulous Dolly Parton built her Imagination Library on the belief that our keiki need stories like these and we think she explained it best, "Every book is a treasure and every time you open one up, you will meet new friends and take wonderful journeys to magical places." 💚
