It’s been five days since Hurricane Lowell passed by Kaua’i, and our teams haven’t stopped moving. From airlifting fresh Domino’s pizzas to travelers stuck in TSA lines and neighbors in Kaua’i shelters, to serving alongside faithful volunteers, community partners, and elected officials, this is what the first five days of response looked like.

At 4:00 AM this morning, six Salvation Army volunteers arrived at our Hanapepe Corps Soup Kitchen to prepare hot breakfast for their community. Working by flashlight, they prepped 85 meals for people taking refuge in West Kauaʻi's shelters.

In the first 48 hours after Hurricane Lowell passed by our islands, our Līhue Corps Community Center and Hanapēpē Corps Community Center served more than 500 meals across four Kauaʻi County refuge centers, to staff at the Kauaʻi Emergency Operations Center, and to crews working to restore public roads and utilities. More hot meals are already on the way.

Our teams remain on the ground across the island to ensure no one faces the aftermath of this storm alone. Mahalo nui to our volunteers who choose to be the hands and feet of hope every single day! 🕊️

Two hurricanes in three weeks — we’re actively responding to needs across the islands. National partners like Baby2Baby make a huge difference in providing much needed supplies to care for our youngest community members who are also impacted by these storms.

We need your kōkua. Fill a grocery bag for a Hawai‘i Island family!

Since the recent storms, our weekly food pantries at our corps community centers in Hilo, Honokaʻa, and Kona have seen a significant increase in families seeking assistance. We distribute hundreds of food bags each week as part of our regular support services, and our supplies have been running critically low.

We are calling on our community to help us restock so every family who needs a food bag to make it through the week can receive what they need.

💵 Give Financially: A $50 donation covers the cost of one grocery bag. Monetary gifts allow us to purchase exactly what is needed most.

Setting local keiki up for success, starting with a backpack and a lesson about generosity. 🎒

This summer, our Echelon Hawaii young professional volunteers packed 130 backpacks for local 3rd graders, kicking off the 2026–2027 Red Pencil Project! The first visit of the year was all about generosity, with Echelon members meeting students face-to-face to share the lesson in person.

Throughout the school year, Echelon volunteers will return each quarter to connect with the same students, teaching a new character trait and modeling service in action. It's young professionals investing in the young minds and hearts of our local families.
