🚨 Residential Fire | September 28, 2026 🚨
At approximately 6:14 a.m. this morning, the City of Houma Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire in the backyard of a residence on Clairmont Ln.
A passerby noticed the fire and immediately called 911 after observing multiple vehicles in the driveway. The caller was able to alert the occupants, allowing them to safely evacuate the home before firefighters arrived.
Prior to our arrival, the fire had extended up the side of the residence, entered the attic space, and begun burning through the roof. The first arriving fire company encountered heavy fire conditions involving the garage roof. Based on initial conditions, the responding chief requested a Second Alarm, bringing additional Houma Fire Department resources and command staff to the scene.
As crews battled the fire, it spread from the attached garage into the main living area of the home. A Third Alarm was subsequently requested, bringing assistance from the Bayou Cane Fire Protection District, including additional apparatus, an ambulance, and a battalion chief. Houma Fire Department aerial apparatus were repositioned and placed into operation to assist firefighters in bringing the fire under control.
Thanks to the quick actions of the passerby and the rapid response of emergency personnel, all occupants safely escaped without injury. Firefighters also successfully rescued a family cat during search operations.
Unfortunately, a neighboring residence sustained minor damage during suppression efforts. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Bayou Cane Regional Training Academy and BC Training Officer Adam Schmitt for their assistance and support during this incident.
The area was closed to traffic but is now open. A Houma Fire investigator in onscene conducting an investigation to the possible cause. It is undetermined at this time.
We want to thank everyone for the teamwork by all agencies involved.
