Yesterday, Thursday, May 28th, Cape May County Commissioner Vice Director Andrew Bulakowski had the solemn honor of awarding a proclamation to Gold Star Services Network Founder and Chair, Barbara Zaneri.

A Gold Star family is a term of honor given to immediate U.S. Military family members of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defending our nation’s freedom and safety. The “Gold Star” originates from WWI, where families would honor loved ones who fell in the line of duty with golden stars – honoring their legacy and showing America’s gratitude for their heroism.

Like all Gold Star families, Barbara Zaneri is honoring an immediate family member – her brother, SSgt Philip J. Zaneri, USAF. Barbara founded the Gold Star Services Network to honor her brother as well as promote, honor, and support all Gold Star Families in not only acknowledging the loss of loved ones, but also recognizing their legacy. In addition, the family of FN Jeffrey M. Svoboda, USCG, was there to honor both legacies, as both families became close upon learning of each other's stories of sacrifice.

We would also like to thank the event host, the Madison Resort in Wildwood Crest, for graciously hosting with the utmost care and respect.

On behalf of the Cape May County Board of County Commissioners, we would like to salute and recognize Barbara Zaneri, the hard work and dedication of the Gold Star Services Network, and all Gold Star families for their dedication, service, and honor to our nation.

Cape May County Commissioner Patrick Rosenello welcomed Coastal Cruiser to Cape May County during a ribbon cutting ceremony today. Coastal Cruiser is a seasonal hop-on, hop-off shuttle experience designed to help the public explore the very best of Lower Cape May County, including stops at local breweries, wineries, distillers, and the Cape May Lewes Ferry.

Rosenello also presented the owners with a certificate, signed by the entire Cape May County Board of County Commissioners, as we wished them the best of luck this summer and in the future.

MAYORS' ROUNDTABLE TACKLES AFFORDABLE HOUSING, COUNTY DEVELOPMENT, AND REGIONAL PRIORITIES

On Friday, May 15, 2026, Commissioner Director Leonard C. Desiderio convened mayors and municipal administrators from all 16 municipalities to discuss affordable housing, County development, regional priorities, and the arbitrary and capricious NJPACT REAL Rules. Additional attendees included County Commissioner Patrick T. Rosenello, Kamani Scott, Senior Aide for Intergovernmental Affairs in the Governor's Office, and Legislative District 1 representatives: Senator Testa, Assemblyman Erik Simonsen, and Assemblyman Antwan McClellan.

Commissioner Director Leonard C. Desiderio emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and open dialogue between the County and its municipalities, and thanked State Reps for attendance and participation. “The Mayor’s Roundtable provides an invaluable opportunity to bring our municipal leaders together to discuss the issues, initiatives, and priorities that directly impact our communities,” said Commissioner Director Leonard C. Desiderio. “Through partnership and the sharing of ideas, we can continue building a stronger Cape May County that supports our residents, businesses, and visitors alike. We were also grateful to have State representatives from LD1 and the Governor’s Office to hear firsthand the concerns and priorities of our local communities, strengthening the connection between state and local government as we work toward common goals.”
