To celebrate, our Pre-K classes brought their most favorite items from home to share for Show and Tell! They had a great time showing off their trains, dolls, bears, and even one barn. It was amazing to see the children stand up in front of their friends and share something they love. ❤️ We hope to build lasting memories, confidence and effective communication skills! 🧸 🚗

We know it’s HOT out there right now, but IMAGINE yourself with your co-workers out on a cool golf course sipping cold beverages in November! A beautiful buffet lunch will be served on the patio and a dinner with your favorite cut of meat and sides later that evening inside. In the meantime, thanks to your participation, there will be children back at Nehemiah receiving the tools they need to change their lives and in some cases the lives of their entire families.

We hope you will join us for the 23rd Annual NEHEMIAH GOLF CLASSIC to be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the beautiful Golf Club of Houston. This is an important tournament year as we start the new school year with many new families looking to us for stability in these trying times. We intend to take on educating this new group of children with HOPE and POSITIVITY for their future.

It is with great sadness we share this news. The Nehemiah family mourns the sudden passing of our beloved Director of Education, Melodee Jordan. We ask that you please lift her family, friends, colleagues, and community in prayer. We are suffering the great loss of a family member, and we need the support and prayers of our community more than ever before. As members of the non-profit sector, we are accustomed to helping others before ourselves but never prepared when we are the ones in need.

Melodee Jordan has been a driving force behind the success of Nehemiah children and their families for over 20 years. Her ability to lead and instinctually assess a child’s needs created not only an environment of love but also one that is nurturing and healing. It was common to find her early mornings praying with the children, combing hair so a little one feels confident, redirecting with love, giving the best hugs, and helping children succeed by overcoming learning deficits. In addition, her institutional knowledge in education and great intellect created impactful advancements that directly benefited programming leading to transformational changes, and we owe her a great debt. We will always remember her kind heart and love for every single one of you that is part of the Nehemiah community.

We are thankful to God that we are prepared for these moments by HIS Word and certain in these times of great need HE draws himself closer to us. The Bible tells us that God will comfort those who grieve, as “the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) We pray God give us guidance to share comforting words with the children she loved so dearly.

The coming days and weeks will be difficult for us all. Her dedication to the the Nehemiah Center mission will inspire us all for many years to come and we will be forever grateful and honored for her commitment to the children and families we serve. We will miss her with all of our hearts and have faith she is now in God's loving hands.

We never stop growing at the Nehemiah Center! 📈 Today we held our staff strategic workshop and said goodbye to our beloved Mr. Perez. 👋🏼 The Nehemiah staff works hard to stay ahead of our client needs and stay true to our mission. 🙏🏼 We are are sad to see our Family Assistance/Praise and Worship Leader leave but know he has great things ahead of him. ❤️

The phenomenal success of last week's Nehemiah Center VIVA LAS VEGAS gala reflects the ever-increasing dedication and enthusiasm displayed over the last 27 years by YOU, our community. The event was more than any of us could have imagined, AND it was fun! We are dedicated to changing the landscape of education for Houston’s most vulnerable children. It is no doubt that by the Grace of God our children will receive the much-needed support they deserve to become productive and valuable members of society. Join us for the Nehemiah Center's Viva Las Vegas Gala! This Retro Glam evening will have all the style and glitz of Las Vegas, while raising funds for our true stars, the children of Nehemiah. Each year we celebrate their many accomplishments from learning to read to graduating from college. You can’t help falling in love with the Nehemiah Center.

It will be a fun filled night with great music, fabulous food, neon lights, a silent auction, Nehemiah graduates, shiny little stars, AND Elvis will be in the building. The evening will be an ode to the old days of Las Vegas where stars just did it their way.

Alpha Phi Alpha Eta Lambda Chapter Houston made Christmas extra special this year! 🎄Thank you all! This generous group collected gifts for our children. The Annual Nehemiah Family Christmas Dinner was a huge success! 🎄🎄🎄The children's performance was adorable, the food was delicious, and Santa surprised us all. 🎅It's been two years since we've gathered and we missed it. ❤️❤️ The fellowship and joy in the room is irreplaceable and much needed. The Nehemiah Center Houston Team visited Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory of Houston for a tour. Tonia Labbe is a proud CRJ Board Member. We work closely with CRJ to place our middle schoolers at this amazing college preparatory school for students with limited economic resources!

We are still celebrating FALL at the Nehemiah Center! 🍁 🍂 Today we hosted a tiny pumpkin decorating contest with the Pre-K! 🍦 The pink ice cream cone was the big winner. Thank you to the National Charity League Texas Sage Group for gifting our staff with treats. 🍭 🍿 Our teachers and staff work hard ensuring every child is given tools for success. 👧🏻 We appreciate you!

Our after school students showed up ready to celebrate the Fall Festival and Astros Day! ⚾️ It was wonderfully loud and festive. 🍁 A special thank you to our amazing Education Director, Melodee Jordan for organizing this special day. Somehow she always manages to keep the kids educated, busy, and happy! 🎉 We also want to thank the University of Houston Challenger Program, NCL Sage Group, and one of our parents Monica Floyd. We are thankful to have these opportunities to create safe and meaningful memories for our children! ❤️❤️

Our middle school students celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month today. 🇲🇽 🇭🇳 🇧🇷 Each student prepared and presented a topic of their choice. 🌮 ⚽️ We learned about great athletes, great food, fun places to visit and even Dora the Explorer! 🙋🏻‍♀️ Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
