🎉 Congratulations, Jean Patterson, on an incredible 45 years of service to the Texas Surplus Lines Association! 🎉

Jean's journey with TSLA began in April 1981 when she answered a job posting in the Austin American-Statesman. Starting as an Administrative Assistant, she was later promoted to Executive Administrator before being named Executive Director in 1997.

Over the past 45 years, Jean's leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving members have helped shape TSLA into the organization it is today. During her tenure, TSLA expanded to 155 members, established a successful PAC, helped create the Surplus Lines Stamping Office, and developed the industry's well-known "purple book," among many other accomplishments.
While Jean is always quick to credit TSLA's volunteer leaders and members for the association's success, countless Officers, Directors, Committee Members, and industry professionals know firsthand the impact she has made behind the scenes. Her commitment to excellence and passion for serving the membership have left a lasting mark on both TSLA and the surplus lines industry.

As Jean begins this well-deserved next chapter, we celebrate her remarkable career, her countless contributions, and the legacy she leaves behind.

🍻 What a night! The IIAH YIPs x YRP x TSLA TUF Fall Happy Hour at Woody's Hideaway was filled with good drinks, great friends, and a real good time.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! It was great to catch up with familiar faces, make new connections, and enjoy an evening with such an amazing group of young professionals.

👏 Meet one of the new leaders helping shape the future of IIAH.

Introducing 2026–2027 IIAH Board Member Jason Volkert. Learn more about his journey below ⬇️

Jason Volkert is an insurance industry executive and U.S. Navy veteran based in the Greater Houston area. He currently serves as Vice President at The Gibraltar Group Insurance Services, where he specializes in insurance sales, residential property coverage, risk management, and building strong relationships with more than 40 insurance agents.

With nearly 30 years of industry experience, Jason has held a variety of sales and territory management roles. His career includes positions with Homeowners of America Insurance Company, National General Insurance, and Imperial Fire & Casualty.
Jason credits his military service with shaping his leadership philosophy, particularly his commitment to discipline, trust, accountability, and service. Following his time in the Navy, he attended Sam Houston State University.

Jason and his wife, Kristin, recently became empty nesters after raising five children. Today, they spend many weekends traveling to visit family and cheering on their favorite college teams. When he's not on the road, you can often find him on the golf course.
After more than 20 years of attending IIAH events and never missing a Trade Show, Jason joined the Board because he believes much of his success can be traced back to the relationships, knowledge, and opportunities he gained through IIAH. He is passionate about giving back and helping the next generation of insurance professionals succeed.

Yesterday evening, our members had the opportunity to spend time with the incredible residents of the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Houston.

A HUGE thank you to Susan Zipperer for sponsoring a delicious Chuy's dinner and helping make the evening so special. We also want to recognize William Stromeyer and Alixandria Luman for putting together four rounds of trivia and serving as fantastic emcees throughout the night. Between the great food, friendly competition, and meaningful conversations, it was truly an unforgettable evening.

If you've been thinking about getting involved in one of our volunteer projects but haven't taken that first step yet, we wanted to share what volunteer Sarah Cruz had to say about her experience:

I had the pleasure of meeting so many beautiful people who have traveled to Houston to fight their battle with cancer. Unsurprisingly, they were all full of life, love, and hope for the future.
Just as one of the patients, Mrs. Sonia, beautifully said, ‘There is always a sunrise after the darkest night.’
Being able to put smiles on their faces and spend time with the patients at Hope Lodge, helping them feel seen, laugh, and connect, filled my heart with so much joy and gratitude. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to spend time with these incredible fighters, and I cannot wait to volunteer for Hope Lodge again! ❤️
