Over the past week, our board members have been active throughout the community:

The H-BAD Board gathered for its annual retreat to plan upcoming initiatives, including our Fall Fundraiser, GOTV efforts, and other priorities for the months ahead.

Chair Shamier Bouie attended a Faith Leaders Luncheon with Gina Hinojosa at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, joining faith and community leaders for conversation and fellowship.

Treasurer Vernon Lewis attended Houston City Controller Chris Hollins’ Back-to-School Drive, supporting local students and families as they prepare for the new school year.

Chair Bouie attended the World Youth Foundation’s Annual Jewell McGowen Seeds of Gratitude Awards Ceremony, celebrating service, leadership, and community impact.

Vice Chair Christian Alexander attended the grand opening of Dr. Letitia Plummer’s campaign office, joining community leaders and supporters for the opening of her campaign headquarters.

Chair Bouie also attended the Voting Rights Act Press Conference, where she delivered remarks encouraging continued advocacy and action to protect voting rights.

The Youth Civic Engagement Focus Group brought together high school students and Texas Southern University (TSU) Thurgood Marshall School of Law students to engage in meaningful discussions about the civic, social, and community issues shaping the next generation. Through collaborative dialogue, participants identified key topics affecting today’s youth and worked together to design six interactive conference sessions that reflect their perspectives, priorities, and solutions. We are excited to welcome Alvin to the Board and look forward to his leadership and service as we continue advancing H-BAD's mission of empowering Black political engagement and strengthening our community.

Congratulations, Alvin! Welcome to the team!
