The Indiana County Commissioners are taking proactive steps now—before any data center proposals are submitted— to assure protection of natural resources and communities through responsible development policies.

While land use decisions are primarily controlled at the municipal level under Pennsylvania law, Indiana County through the Indiana County Planning Commission, which is staffed by the Indiana County Office of Planning & Development, administers the Indiana County Subdivision & Land Development Ordinance (SALDO) for 32 municipalities, therefore the Indiana County Commissioners act within their authority to establish safeguards, provide guidance, and support all municipalities in making informed decisions.

The Indiana County Commissioners will be accepting public comments from June 19, 2026 to July 20, 2026. Please go to the link below, to the Community Outreach section for more information and the public comment form.

Hmmm…. What is going on at that plant in Creekside?

We found out today, when we visited Aquatech, based out of Canonsburg. The company is using the Creekside facility as a specialized industrial laboratory - for testing water treatment processes.

An aerial black fly (gnat) suppression operation is scheduled for Thursday, June 11th, on the Youghiogheny River, the Kiskiminetas River, the Conemaugh River, Loyalhanna Creek, Slippery Rock Creek, Neshannock Creek, and Connoquenessing Creek. This operation will begin in Fayette County at 7:00 AM and will finish on in Lawrence County. This aerial application will include flights in Armstrong, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Indiana, Lawrence, and Westmoreland counties. The helicopter will be a Bell OH-58 A+ with the tail number N659HA and is painted white with blue, red, and gray stripes.

Helicopter Applicators Inc. will be dispersing Vectobac 12AS, which is a Bti product manufactured by Valent Biosciences. Bti is short for Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis, which is a bacterial larvicide, not a chemical, and is the only product used in Pennsylvania's waterways for black fly suppression. Vectobac 12AS is a thick liquid that is brown in color that quickly disperses when applied to the water. The helicopter will fly low near tree top level and will release the material at various predetermined locations on each river.
