EMS agencies across Michigan are asking our Senators to ensure the budget keeps Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for EMS in-line with allowable rates and pays Michigan's EMS providers $6M owed for emergency care provided to the state's prisons.

Two changes are needed in the state budget:
1. Updating budget boilerplate to update Medicaid reimbursement at the allowable rate and ensure that budget boilerplate language keeps the Medicaid rates in line with the respective annual Medicare increases.
2. Allocating funds to finally pay providers for service to Michigan’s prisons in 2023 and 2024 that left nearly $6 million owed to providers by the Michigan Department of Corrections.

We had a great time visiting with the kids at Camp McYack! This awesome camp is for children who use supportive devices to communicate and express themselves. Paramedic Jordan and EMT Jasmeen held a touch-a-truck with other first responder agencies, giving campers the opportunity to engage with first responders in a safe environment. 🚑🚓🚒

The first week of June is CPR and AED awareness week! 🙌💓
You have the ability to save a life if someone goes into cardiac arrest. Hands-Only CPR takes two simple steps:
1. Call 9-1-1
2. Press hard and fast in the center of the victim's chest until first responders arrive. Keep your compressions around 120 beats per minute - the beat of the song "Stayin' Alive."

This week, JCA Paramedic Wil Schikora and MICU Paramedic Jennifer Strouss participated in a training on Hazmat decontaminations, mass-casualty incident response, and a challenging vehicle extrication scenario. The training took place with multiple emergency response partners, including ER physicians from Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, City of Jackson, MI Fire Department , Napoleon Township, MI Police & Fire Departments, and Grass Lake Township Fire Department.

Henry Ford’s Dr. Jackman came up with the idea for this training, and it has been in the making since September. The goal of the training was to help ER physicians understand the response and pre-hospital medical care that occur in the field before the patient arrives at the hospital, giving everyone better knowledge and insight into the chain of emergency patient care and a higher level of preparedness for critical events. Dr. Jackman will be publishing the training along with other pre-hospital care research to a medical journal.
