This Labor Day, we recognize the caregivers whose days are filled with responsibilities that don't always fit neatly into a schedule.

The meals. The appointments. The reminders. The planning. The watching. The worrying. And all of the little things that often go unseen.

Today, we celebrate the love, patience, and dedication behind that work.

A routine that once worked may become frustrating. A task that was once easy may suddenly need assistance. Something your loved one understood yesterday may be confusing today.

That doesn't mean you've done something wrong.

Observe. Adjust. Try again.

When behavior changes, look for the “why.”

A sudden change in behavior doesn't always have one simple explanation.

Is your loved one uncomfortable? Could they be in pain? Has something changed in their surroundings? Could there be a medical issue? Or could Alzheimer's be affecting how they understand and respond to what's happening around them?

Instead of focusing only on stopping a behavior, pay attention to what may be happening around it.

Sometimes behavior is communication when words no longer tell the whole story.
