Sheriff Richard Giardino and the Fulton County Sheriff's Office would like to congratulate the department's two newest Corrections Officers, Matthew Blowers and Blake Schipano, on their successful completion of the Capital Region Unified Corrections Academy Session 1-A.

INCREASED PATROLS FROM THE FULTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
JUNE 1, 2026
Effective this month the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing patrols within the Villages of Broadalbin and Mayfield and the Town of Northampton and the Village of Northville evenings and weekends when the Northville Police Department is off duty. These patrols will assist by having a higher profile especially in the villages and in Broadalbin which has had their patrols reduced due to a lack of deputies which have always been assigned to the Broadalbin PD, among other reasons.

The increased patrols are possible due to the influx of 4 additional deputies to fill vacant positions in the next 4 weeks: (2) that recently graduated the Albany Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Police Academy and have completed field training and (2) officers that are lateralling from other agencies into the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Giardino credits the Board of Supervisors and the Sheriff’s Deputies PBA for reaching their last two contracts which have brought pay parity with other area agencies to the deputies and a 20-year retirement pension compatible with 98% of law enforcement agencies in the State.

Patrols from the Sheriff’s Office will continue to respond to all calls and all Towns. The reason for the increased patrols in the villages is a result of several factors including: having the additional positions filled, a dramatic increase in the number of complaints involving the reckless operation of e-bikes, the impending summer months with increased teen drivers on the roads who are usually much less experienced, the nicer weather which brings out more pedestrian foot traffic and more vehicle traffic headed to enjoy Fulton County’s Lakes, particularly the Great Sacandaga.
Additionally we will be increasing the navigation Patrols on the busier lakes due to having more certified marine patrol deputies.
We remind people to slow down, take your time, don’t drink and drive and don’t text and drive.
