Several people have asked why I have signed onto the Lawsuit against the Governor, the Attorney General and the State.
The lawsuit seeks to stop the continued implementation of two new statutes. One voids Federal partnerships, those Sheriff's seek for their jails and the second creates the Office of Immigrant Trusts.
Fulton County has not and does not have any agreements with ICE to house or detain illegal immigrants. Therefore those portions of the new law don't apply to us. What does apply to us is the Office of Immigrant Trusts.
The reason I have chosen to sign on is that the new laws infringe on the Constitutional Office of the Sheriff. It is a violation of the Home Rule provision of the law. Additionally it attempts to direct how a local Sheriff fulfills their duty to protect their citizens.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office stands with our brothers and sisters at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office following the on-duty shooting of K-9 Ace.

While K-9s are highly trained working dogs, they are so much more than partners, they are family.

Handlers often spend more time alongside their K-9 partners than they do with their own loved ones, building an unbreakable bond through every shift, call, and challenge.

When one K-9 team is hurting, we all feel it.

Our thoughts and prayers are with K-9 Ace, his handler, and the entire Polk County Sheriff’s Office during this incredibly difficult time.

We are praying for Ace’s full and speedy recovery, and for strength and comfort for his handler as they navigate one of the most difficult experiences any K-9 team can face.
