Extreme Heat Warning through Tuesday 🥵
What Has Changed?
● Upgraded the Heat Advisory to an Extreme Heat Warning
and extended the time frame through Tuesday.
● What: Hot conditions will persist through the Labor Day weekend. The previous Heat Advisory was upgraded to an Extreme Heat Warning due to the duration of the heat wave, the time of the year, and because overnight temperatures also remain well above average.
🌡️High temperatures around 100°. Heat indices up to 107° expected.
🌡️ Little overnight relief with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

🩳Wear Lightweight, Light-Colored, Loose-Fitting Clothing
⛱️Take Breaks in Air Conditioning or Shade Limit Time Pets Spend

🔥🔥🔥Extreme Heat Warning issued September 3 at 11:34AM CDT until September 8 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Topeka KS WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, and
northeast Kansas.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Bring your pets inside.

THE HEAT IS ON!!! Labor Day is going to be HOT! 🌞🔥
Hot and dry weather is expected to continue through the holiday weekend. A heat advisory is posted for the entire area through Saturday. Be sure to stay hydrated and move outdoor activities to the morning or late evening hours.

WE CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH TO PLAN AHEAD . . .
GAME DAY is coming!!!!!
Eastbound I-70 and Northbound U.S. 77 construction in Geary Co. could impact game day travel.
CLOSED: Eastbound I-70 on-ramp at Marshall Field will close during periods of high traffic (game weekends) in an effort to improve traffic flow.
Eastbound I-70 motorists: Traffic reduced to one lane between Henry Dr (Exit 301) and K-18 (Exit 303).
Northbound U.S. 77 motorists: Lane reductions just south of I-70 with temporary traffic signals to direct traffic around bridge construction.
Be prepared for possible traffic back-ups. Motorists are advised to leave early, if possible, and allow extra time or use alternate routes. Check kandrive.gov for current road conditions and construction info.

Never, never, never leave children, disabled or elderly adults, or pets in parked, unattended vehicles! Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rapidly rise to dangerous levels for people and pets. Leaving the windows slightly open does not significantly decrease the heating rate. The effects can be more severe on children because their bodies have not developed the ability to efficiently regulate internal temperature.
