Thank you to Board of Education candidates Britteny Cioni-Haywood, Christine Johnson, and David Noon for joining us at Thursday’s School Board Candidate Forum!

The candidates discussed some of the biggest issues facing Juneau’s schools, from district finances and teacher retention to career preparation, facilities, student safety, and rebuilding community trust.

A few key themes from the conversation:
💰 Navigating another challenging budget year and considering how financial decisions ultimately impact students and classrooms.
🍎 Recruiting and retaining great teachers through competitive compensation, supportive leadership, manageable workloads, safe schools, and adequate resources.
🛠️ Connecting students with local careers by expanding career and technical education, internships, dual-credit programs, and partnerships with Juneau employers.
🤝 Planning for the future and rebuilding trust through clear goals, long-term planning, and open communication with families, educators, and the community.

Thank you to all three candidates for taking the time to share their perspectives with our members.

There’s no better way to spend a summer evening in Juneau! 🐋

We had such a great time getting out on the water for our Chamber Member Whale Watch. This member event was all about showing our appreciation, spending time together, and enjoying a little of what makes Juneau such an incredible place to call home.
