50 Years Later: Seeking Justice for Carole Anne Bresler Tyler
On October 30, 1976, 19-year-old Carole Tyler was stabbed to death inside the Tri-City Herald circulation office where she worked. Today, 50 years later, her homicide remains unsolved, and the Kennewick Police Department continues to seek answers.
Carole was a 1975 Kennewick High School graduate and Miss Tri-Cities contestant. She had worked at the Herald for just two months and typically opened the office alone before other employees arrived.
Investigators determined Carole was killed between approximately 6 and 8 a.m. She was found in a bathroom inside the office.
Carole still has family in our community who think of her often. They have lived with unanswered questions for five decades. We remain committed to finding the person responsible and pursuing justice for Carole and her family.
This case remains an active, open investigation. Over the years, multiple investigators have worked the case and interviewed many people. We regularly reevaluate the available evidence as DNA testing and other forensic technologies advance, looking for opportunities to move the investigation forward. We will continue that work.
