POCKET FIRE UPDATE: A formal closure order is in effect for the area surrounding the fire.

A number of campgrounds, day use sites, trails and trailheads are inaccessible at this time due to firefighting operations.

Forest visitors should abide by all posted closures and seek alternative recreation and travel arrangements.

POCKET FIRE UPDATE: Evacuations are in effect and state Route 89A is closed.

Northern Arizona Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire this morning and Southwest Area Incident Management Team is en route to assume command shortly after.

🚨 Don't Leave Your Pets Behind: Include Them in Your Evacuation Plan! 🐶🐱

If an emergency forces you to leave your home, the best way to protect your pets is to evacuate with them. But remember—not all emergency shelters or hotels accept animals. Including them in your planning now ensures nobody gets left behind when seconds count. 🎒🗺️

Make your evacuation plan pet-friendly with these essential steps:

🏡 Identify Safe Places: Research pet-friendly hotels along your evacuation routes, or coordinate with family and friends who live outside the affected area and are willing to host your animals.

⛺ Know Your Local Shelters: Keep a list of local emergency shelters that accommodate pets, or check with your local emergency management office to see where co-location shelters will be set up.

🔄 Practice the Routine: Load your pets into their carriers or cars a few times so they are familiar with the routine. Regular drills reduce their anxiety and help you figure out how long it actually takes to get everyone out safely.

⚠️ FIRE UPDATE: HOUSE ROCK VALLEY ROAD IS CLOSED AT STATE LINE ⚠️

The Rock Canyon Fire in northern Arizona continues to grow and is exhibiting extreme fire behavior west of House Rock Valley Road.

Our Emergency Management Director has advised Kane County that House Rock Valley Road is currently closed at the Utah-Arizona state line. Due to the rapidly changing nature of this incident, additional closures farther north into Utah may become necessary with little notice.

Visitors planning to access White Pocket, Coyote Buttes South, Paria backcountry trailheads, dispersed camping areas, or other destinations along House Rock Valley Road should be prepared for changing conditions and possible additional access restrictions. Travelers are encouraged to check current conditions before departing and have alternate plans available.

Kane County will continue monitoring official updates from fire management agencies and will share additional information as it becomes available.

A July 4th message from the Office of the State Fire Marshal🇺🇸🧨

While the purchase and use of fireworks may be legal around this time of the year, that doesn't mean they are safe for use.

Under Arizona Revised Statute § 36-1606, permissible consumer fireworks may be sold and used during designated dates, including around the Fourth of July holiday.

But, even legal fireworks can ignite dry grass and brush, creating the potential for a fast-moving wildfire especially under our hot and dry conditions.

Please do your part to prevent wildfires and leave it up to the professionals! If you choose to use consumer fireworks during the designated dates of June 24-July 6, make safety your top priority:

✅Have a bucket of water or hose nearby
✅Use fireworks in areas cleared of vegetation
✅Soak fireworks after use and before disposing of them
ℹ️Check local restrictions
🚫Fireworks are never allowed on State Trust or federal lands
