A group of our employees recently spent some time in the OHSEP Emergency Operations Center learning more about how to be prepared when an emergency happens.

These trainings help employees know what to expect and understand their roles during situations like hurricanes. Being prepared ahead of time helps our teams be ready when they’re needed most.

Our Public Works crews were out today placing rock around culvert ends in front of the Office of Juvenile Justice Services.

It may not look like a big job, but adding rock helps keep the soil from washing away and protects the area around the culverts from erosion during heavy rain. Just another look at some of the work our crews are doing around the parish.

REMINDER: You may see and hear low-flying U.S. Air Force aircraft over Calcasieu Parish this evening as part of a planned aerial mosquito control operation.

Our Mosquito Control team is partnering with the U.S. Air Force and Chennault International Airport for the operation, weather permitting.

Chennault is also serving as a staging location for similar mosquito control missions in neighboring parishes. Learn more: https://tinyurl.com/cppjspray

🐷🚔 Alright, y’all… keep the jokes to yourselves. We already know.

Our deputies found this little guy wandering around and decided to give him a ride.

Yes, we realize the irony.

All jokes aside, we’d love to get him back where he belongs! He was located off Manchester Road yesterday.

If you recognize him or know his owner, please call CPSO Lt. Dan Hebert at (337) 263-4272.

It’s that time of year again! School is starting back this week, which means school zones will be busy again too.

Slow down, stay alert and keep an eye out for students as you make your way through school zones. Let’s help everyone start the school year safely!

🎒🚸 Back-to-School Safety Tip: Slow Down in School Zones

Sheriff Stitch Guillory and CPSO are reminding drivers that school zones are soon to be back in effect.
Every year, we see drivers speeding through school zones, using their phones, or failing to stop for school buses. Those few extra seconds saved are never worth risking a child’s life.

Keep our students safe by remembering to:
🚗 Slow down and obey all posted school zone speed limits.
📵 Put your phone away. A moment of distraction is all it takes.
🛑 Stop for school buses when required by law.
🚸 Watch carefully for children crossing streets, walking between vehicles, or riding bicycles.
👮 Be patient with crossing guards and school traffic.

Parents, help your children stay safe by reminding them to:
✔️ Use designated crosswalks whenever possible.
✔️ Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
✔️ Stay alert and avoid looking at their phones while walking.
