Are you interested in becoming an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer with the LSU AgCenter / Calcasieu Parish Cooperative Extension Service? This is a great opportunity to learn more about gardening and support of our horticulture program. It is also a wonderful opportunity for individuals that are truly interested in gardening and sharing that knowledge with others. You will be provided with 40 hours of classroom training in general horticulture in return for 40 hours of volunteer time in support of the Calcasieu Extension Horticulture Program. The horticulture program and Master Gardener Volunteers are under the management and direction of the LSU AgCenter Extension Horticulturist, Robert M. Turley.

LSU AgCenter and McNeese University will host the Annual SW LA Rice Field Day on Tuesday, May 26th at 8:30 a.m. at the McNeese Farm.
All farmers, consultants, students, and industry personnel are welcome to attend. LSU Rice specialist will be presenting updates on this years crop and demonstration plots at the farm.

Glad to have Kyle as a member of our Calcasieu AgCenter team.

The LSU Southwest Region would like to welcome Please welcome Kyle Dupre, 4-H Agent in Calcasieu Parish. His start date is April 1, 2026, and can be contacted at the Calcasieu Parish Office.

Kyle Christopher Dupre is a Southwest Louisiana native and proud former Calcasieu Parish 4-H member. He graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in Marketing and also studied at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Kyle comes to the AgCenter with experience in youth programming, event coordination, and volunteer leadership through his work at the McNeese Catholic Student Center and Occasions Event Design & Catering. 4-H played a major role in his childhood, and he’s excited to return to the program in a professional role.

In his free time, Kyle enjoys cooking, decorating events, working livestock shows, and spending time with family. He looks forward to serving the youth and families of Calcasieu Parish.

The LSU AgCenter is hosting a series of cattle marketing workshops for producers of any size, large or small, starting in May at the Calcasieu Extension office, 7101 Gulf Hwy, Lake Charles from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Each session will feature difference aspects of marketing cattle from retaining ownership, selling in groups, or selling directly to consumers with local experts who have been successful in these endeavors.
