When emergencies occur in enclosed spaces such as manholes or storage tanks, firefighters face challenges that require special equipment and clear communication.

This is why our firefighters recently trained in confined space rescue operations, working through realistic scenarios to perfect their maneuvers, rescue techniques, and teamwork.

We’re always working to stay prepared for any assistance the Lake Forest community needs.

The Lake Forest Fire Department is working hard to assess and clear damage from yesterday’s severe weather. Crews are out in the field and are committed to serving Lake Forest during this time.

If you see damage involving downed utility lines, stay away from the scene and immediately contact emergency services.

The storms may be behind us, but the cleanup is just beginning. ⛈️

Yesterday, our crews did an outstanding job responding to call after call, working tirelessly to keep our community safe through rapidly changing conditions. We couldn't be more proud of their professionalism, dedication, and teamwork.

As crews continue to assist with storm-related incidents, please remember that the Lake Forest Fire Department does not have information on when power will be restored. For updates on outages and restoration timelines, please contact your utility provider directly and see tips below.

Be aware of the weather this afternoon and evening. ⛈️

Additional rounds of thunderstorms are expected to move through Lake Forest, and a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 7 pm today, according to the National Weather Service.

Public Works, Forestry, Police, and Fire personnel are on alert and prepared to respond to storm-related issues.

We had a great time serving up some breakfast at Dickinson Hall’s Breakfast at the Beach event yesterday!

What an amazing morning to connect with our community, admire the beautiful beach, and enjoy the most important meal of the day. Thank you to Dickinson Hall Senior Center Lake Forest/Lake Bluff for including us; we hope everyone who attended had as much fun as we did!

Have you ever wondered how firefighters safely rescue someone trapped inside a damaged vehicle? 🚗 🪓

Our firefighters recently trained with the latest vehicle extrication technology, practicing the techniques used to cut through metal, remove doors, and create safe access to the inside of a damaged vehicle.

While we hope you never need to see these tools used in an emergency, we're proud to showcase this behind-the-scenes look at the equipment and techniques that make these rescues possible.

The Lake Forest Fire Department is aware of the poor air quality in the City of Lake Forest, Illinois, today. This is affecting many regions of the United States and is not caused by a local fire.

Poor air quality can be unhealthy, especially for children, older adults, and those with heart or lung conditions.

If possible:
• Stay indoors with windows and doors closed.
• Limit prolonged outdoor activity and strenuous exercise.
• Run your air conditioning on recirculate or use an air purifier if available.

Please continue to monitor local air quality conditions and take precautions to protect your health.

It’s hot out! As temperatures in Lake Forest rise into the 90s this week, be sure to follow these important tips to stay safe and healthy in the heat.
• Stay hydrated by drinking water regularly and avoiding caffeinated, sugary, or alcoholic drinks.
• Wear light, breathable clothing.
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning if possible.
• Recognize symptoms of heat exhaustion. These include heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and pale, clammy skin.
• Know how to identify heat stroke. This is marked by a body temperature of over 104°, confusion, and hot, red skin without sweating.
• In the event of a heat emergency, call 911 and immediately begin moving the person to a cooler area, removing unnecessary clothing, and applying wet towels to their skin if possible.
