PUBLIC NOTIFICATION FOR CITY OF LAKE WORTH BEACH TO ALTER WATER
CHLORINATION PROCESS AUGUST 23, 2026, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 13, 2026

As part of our continued commitment to providing the highest quality drinking water to our customers, the City of Lake Worth Beach Water Treatment Facility will implement a temporary change to the water disinfection process for three weeks from August 23, 2026, through September 13, 2026. This temporary switch is a standard industry practice and a proactive measure to maintain the integrity of the water distribution system and ensure compliance with water quality standards.

Starting August 23, 2026, a “free chlorine residual” water treatment method will be used to provide a stronger, faster acting disinfection process than the “combined chlorine or Chloramines” treatment, which is normally used. The City of Lake Worth Beach will revert to the “combined chlorine” method by September 13, 2026.

The City of Lake Worth Beach and their Consecutive Systems water utility customers including Hypoluxo Village, John Prince Park, Lantana Cascade and Palm Breezes Club may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor in their tap water during this period this is normal and poses no health risk—your water remains safe to drink and use. Those who are especially sensitive to the taste or odor of chlorine can keep an open container of drinking water in their refrigerators for a few hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate. Customers who use home dialysis equipment, maintain tropical fish aquariums, or manage fish/shellfish tanks in commercial settings should consult appropriate professionals, as the treatment for removing free chlorine differs from that used for chloramine.

Additionally, to support the effectiveness of this process, Utility Field Services will increase system-wide hydrant flushing during the adjustment period to ensure optimal distribution system performance.

Any questions should be directed to the City of Lake Worth Beach Water Treatment Plant (561) 586-1710.

Please note, if you have an aquarium or pond always test the water you add to your aquatic environment to be sure it is free of any chlorine, chlorinated water may be toxic to your aquatic environment. Chemical additives with directions are available at pet/fish supply stores for removing either free chlorine or chloramines from water for use in fish tanks or ponds.
