On June 10, 2026, officers with the Lamesa Police Department responded to a report of threats involving a firearm at a residence located in the 500 block of North 17th Street.
During the investigation, officers learned that Samuel Clayton, 36, had allegedly threatened another individual with a firearm, causing the victim to fear imminent serious bodily injury or death. Officers subsequently made contact with Clayton and observed him in possession of a firearm.
Based on information developed during the investigation, officers obtained and executed a search warrant at approximately 4:00 p.m. at a residence located at 500 block of N. 17th Street in Lamesa.
During the ex*****on of the search warrant, officers recovered multiple fi****ms, ammunition, body armor, smoke devices, a gas mask, drug paraphernalia, and other items of evidentiary value.
Clayton was taken into custody and is expected to face charges including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues.
The Lamesa Police Department takes all reports of violent threats seriously. Through the rapid response of patrol officers and investigators, the suspect was safely taken into custody and the incident was resolved without injury to the victim, responding officers, or members of the public.
This investigation remains ongoing.
All criminal charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
