TRIO at KU

TRIO at KU TRIO SSS serves undergraduates at the University of Kansas who are first generation, have disabilities, or meet federal income guidelines.

KU TRIO SSS are two University of Kansas projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The University of Kansas TRIO SES & STEM programs advocate for access to higher education by providing comprehensive, personalized support services to empower eligible students to achieve academic success. Through a comprehensive system of individualized academic support services, we aim to prepare studen

ts for graduate school and success in a global environment. In addition to TRIO SES & STEM, we offer the Opening Paths to Individual Opportunity aNd Success (OPTIONS) college transition program for incoming freshmen, and we are home to KU’s chapter of the Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) National Honor Society.

Our students had an amazing experience in Costa Rica during this year's Developing Global Perspective class! They learned about the unique environments of San José and Monteverde; connected with University of Costa Rica students and presented on student issues; painted buildings at the Children's Eternal Rainforest; and saw a tayra, coati, howler monkey, toucan, and so much more on the night and day hikes led by Pasión Costa Rica!

We're excited to share a new KU TRIO SSS award: the TRIO Trailblazer! A TRIO Trailblazer is a graduating senior and active TRIO SSS participant who epitomizes the TRIO values of academic success, active engagement, and reciprocity to the TRIO community.

One of this year's TRIO Trailblazers is Anjali Singh, who is graduating with a B.A. in Human Biology, a B.A. in Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, a minor in Public & Population Health, undergraduate certificates in Gender, Law and Policy and Global Awareness, and with university honors. Anjali is passionate about community health options and has provided information and assistance on SNAP applications to TRIO SSS students and staff. We're going to miss seeing Anjali, but we know she's going to continue improving lives through her volunteer, research, and academic pursuits.

We're excited to share a new KU TRIO SSS award: the TRIO Trailblazer! A TRIO Trailblazer is a graduating senior and active TRIO SSS participant who epitomizes the TRIO values of academic success, active engagement, and reciprocity to the TRIO community.

One of this year's TRIO Trailblazers is Toby Brown, who is graduating with her B.S. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and a minor in Sociology! Toby comes into the TRIO SSS office with a smile on her face, often with her youngest (also named Toby). Adult Toby is always eager to share her knowledge from classes and offer a helping hand. We're going to miss Toby (and little Toby), but we know she's going to continue to brighten the days of everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
