In 1965, the Lighthouse Point Library started in a tiny rented storefront with an all-volunteer staff and just 500 books. Today, thanks to community support, we boast a beautiful 8,000 square foot facility with 40,000+ print materials, eBooks, audiobooks, eResources, patron computers, patron WiFi, children’s educational stations, and award winning programming for all ages. As a City funded library

, Lighthouse Point Library cards are free of charge for all City of Lighthouse Point residents, business owners, and their children. Individuals who do not reside in the City of Lighthouse Point (non-residents) are welcome to join the library for a membership fee of $50.00 per family (living at the same address), per year. We are truly heartbroken to hear about the passing of music and literary icon Dolly Parton. Dolly was quite simply a librarian’s superhero. Over the past 31 years, Dolly’s non-profit, The Imagination Library, has put over 300,000,000 books in the hands of children ages birth to four years. Preparing them for kindergarten and helping them become lifelong readers. Back in 2011, Lighthouse Point Library Director Christy Keyes had the absolute honor of meeting Dolly through her Imagination Library outreach. It will forever be a highlight of her life. Thank you Dolly, for sharing your gifts of music, literacy, joy, compassion, and kindness with the world. You will forever be the example of how much good one person can do.

Attention LHP residents ages 62 and up, the lottery for Fall CDBG classes is NOW OPEN. Now through September 18, stop by the library during business hours to complete your CDBG enrollment and lottery forms. Don't forget to bring proof of LHP residency and age with you.

While the lottery is open, residents who are fully enrolled in the CDBG program may select the classes they would like to attend. They rank their selections by assigning each class a number (1 = first choice, 2 = second choice, and so on). When the lottery closes, participants are randomly selected for available spaces in each class.

This fall's CDBG class offerings include Watercolor, Yoga, Tech Assist, Paper Quilling, Book Club, Appy Hour Tech, Strength Bands, and Wool Needle Felting.

We had so much fun at last night's Boston T-Rex Party! Families braved the rain to celebrate a mishmash of America 250, the national Unearth a Story dinosaur theme, and the end of summer reading. Kids enjoyed crafts, therapy dogs, games, a dinosaur photo stop, treats, prizes, and meeting 9-year-old author AJ Rodrigues.

A huge thank-you to the wonderful volunteers from our Friends, Advisory, and Teen Boards, as well as the dogs and handlers from Canine Assisted Therapy. We're also grateful for support from our America 250 partners at Florida Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services; our State history partners at the Florida Division of Library and Information Services; and our dinosaur partners at the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

Everyone had a roaring good patriotic time!
