Our office recently participated in a Manufacturing and Production Roundtable at RIVEROAK Technical College alongside Senator Corey Simon, education leaders, industry partners, and workforce partners.

Industry leaders were able to share needs and challenges while discussing opportunities to continue strengthening workforce education in our region.

RiverOak recently developed a curriculum for its new Advanced Manufacturing program which began this school year. We are proud to partner with RiverOak to help ensure local companies have a pipeline for employees who have the skills and training needed.

Last week, Suwannee County hosted the Rural Business Resource Tour, connecting small business owners and entrepreneurs with state agencies and resources to help them start, grow, and succeed.

We began with a tour of binderholz, giving state officials an up close look at our state-of-the-art sawmill and the strength of our local manufacturing industry.

The afternoon focused on connecting business owners with resources, funding opportunities, workforce training, apprenticeships, and marketing strategies at Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc.

We’re grateful to FloridaCommerce, Florida SBDC Network, and other state agencies and partners who invested their time to visit our community and helped create valuable connections for our local businesses.

The 2026 Stand Up Rural America Conference is complete, and our Director, Jimmy Norris, represented the North Florida Economic Development Partnership on a panel speaking about Florida Rural Economic Development Association (FREDA), where leaders discussed how regional collaboration is one of the most effective ways to strengthen rural communities.

The highlight for us was hearing Tom Ziglar speak. He shared timeless leadership principles and the legacy of his father, Zig Ziglar.

He shared ways to motivate employees, a formula to increase performance, the top two values that people want from their leaders, how to share your vision, and many other valuable takeaways.

The conference gave the opportunity to learn from rural leaders, share ideas, and discover new ways to strengthen our communities and support economic development.

Last week, representatives from Team Suwannee traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for our community and explore federal funding opportunities that can support future projects and priorities throughout the county.

During the visit, the delegation met with staff from the offices of Senator Rick Scott, Senator Ashley Moody, and Representative Kat Cammack, as well as representatives from EDA, USDA, and FEMA. These discussions focused on programs and resources that can help strengthen infrastructure, enhance economic development efforts, and support community resilience.

Representing Suwannee County were Board of County Commissioners Chairman Franklin White, Economic Development Director Jimmy Norris, County Administrator Jason Furry, and Fire Chief Dan Miller.

These conversations are an important part of ensuring Suwannee County remains competitive for funding opportunities and that our local priorities are heard at the federal level. We appreciate the time and engagement from our federal partners and look forward to continuing these valuable relationships on behalf of our residents.

Last week we participated in the North Florida Economic Development Partnership at their quarterly board meeting.

One of the featured speakers, Shellie Phelps, shared insights into her work with communities across our region to revitalize downtown areas through strategic planning, community engagement and place making efforts. These projects are helping communities strengthen local economies, support small businesses and create vibrant places where people want to gather together.

We’re especially excited because Suwannee County has recently began working with Shellie as well. We look forward to exploring new opportunities, building on our community’s strengths, and seeing what can come from this partnership as we continue investing in the future of our downtown and local economy.

We appreciate the North Florida Economic Development Partnership for bringing together economic developers, and community leaders from across the region to share ideas and learn from industry professionals.
