Although you probably know us for our collection of books, the library is so much more than just that. We also offer programs for all ages, including a free summer camp session for teens! Notably, our "Creativity Lab" camp just wrapped up, where students explore Long Beach’s history, geography, and culture through art, design, and creativity.

During this week long camp, we took trips to visit our friends at Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch & Gardens, Studio One Eleven, and Long Beach City Hall, learning more about our city and how students can shape it's future.

HEAT ADVISORY‼️Due to excessive temperatures forecasted Tuesday, July 14, through Thursday, July 16, Acting Long Beach Department of Health & Human Services (LBDHHS)Officer Dr. Cliff Okada has issued a Heat Advisory and encourages community members to take precautions to protect against heat-related illness.

The US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard is forecasting temperatures in the low to upper 90s beginning Tuesday, with the hottest conditions expected Wednesday.

Long Beach Public Library locations and select Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine Community Centers will serve as designated cooling centers during their normal business hours. People are encouraged to contact community centers and library locations ahead of time to confirm they are open in the case of unexpected closures.

Additionally, the Multi-Service Center will extend its hours Wednesday, July 15, and be open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please note that case management will only be offered until 4 p.m.

People are encouraged to check on friends, family and neighbors who are homebound to ensure they are not affected by the heat.

Please follow these tips to stay safe:

🆒Stay Cool
🌳Stay in air-conditioned spaces during peak heat (noon to 6 p.m.) or take cool showers or baths.
🏠Limit activities to morning and evening hours when possible.
🩳Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
🚰Hydrate, drink plenty of fluids; don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
🚫Avoid alcohol, caffeine and very sugary drinks; they can be dehydrating.
🐾Make sure pets have plenty of water.
