Have you ever considered fostering or adopting a child?

Aviva hosts an information session on the third Thursday of every month. Join us to learn what it means to become a resource parent, ask questions and explore whether opening your home to a child may be right for you.

Back-to-school season began with supplies, creativity and community at Wallis House.

Children received school essentials, and families took part in raffles for grocery and food gift cards, blankets and a tote bag. They also spent time painting—and the results were full of color, imagination and personality.

Wishing all of the students a wonderful school year ahead!

We're excited to share that nine young people from our Lifting Youth Up Drop-In Center were selected to participate in a guaranteed income program known as Supporting Transitional-Aged Youth and Survivors in Achieving Financial Empowerment, or STAY SAFE.

Participants will receive $1,000 a month for two years to use where they need it most—whether that means rent, groceries, transportation, education, or greater financial stability. For a young person living close to the edge, rising costs can quickly turn an everyday expense into a crisis. This support will provide breathing room, greater choice, and the ability to plan for what comes next.

Big thanks to the Office of Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez, Los Angeles City Council District 13, for selecting Aviva to help connect eligible young people with this opportunity.

Aviva was proud to join DignityMoves for a recent community gathering in support of new housing solutions in Los Angeles.

It was a meaningful opportunity to connect with partners and friends who are working to create more stability for people across our city.

We’re especially excited to continue our partnership with DignityMoves as we prepare to break ground this fall on Aviva’s Perinatal Residential Recovery Program for mothers recovering from substance use and their children.

Good company, grub, and goooooooooooaaaaallllls!

Aviva staff across our Lynwood, Miracle Mile, Hollywood, and Van Nuys locations recently came together to watch the latest World Cup matches.

We cheered, we booed, we debated every call—and had a fabulous time doing it.

Every day, our teams work across Los Angeles to support children, youth, and families through mental health services, foster care and adoption, housing, recovery services, and more. Moments like these give us a chance to strengthen the community behind that work, too.

World Cup spirit is electric in Los Angeles…and at Aviva!

Our staff recently showed off their favorite soccer jerseys to celebrate the energy, pride and global connection of the games.

Our community reflects so many cultures, countries and stories. This season, that means people are cheering for teams from around the world—sometimes because of where they’re from, sometimes because of who they love, and sometimes just because that’s their team.

Coming soon: watch parties (and tacos!)

“I was lost. Aviva gave me a sense of direction.”

When Ivette Hurtado came to Aviva, she had already lived through deep hardship and loss. Here, she found safety, support and people who helped her build a path forward.

With that support, Ivette graduated from Aviva’s high school program and went on to earn her associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in social work from USC. Today, inspired by the help she received at Aviva, Ivette is a psychiatric social worker with the Department of Mental Health, helping others find support in their own moments of need.

Watch Ivette’s story and see Aviva’s mission in action.

When young people feel like a space belongs to them, they help shape it.

That’s exactly what happened at Aviva’s Lifting Youth Up Drop-In Center, where youth came up with an idea: a drag show to celebrate the expansion of our Resource Closet.

Then they brought it to life themselves.

The celebration highlighted an important step in expanding Aviva’s existing Resource Closet into a Rainbow Resource Qloset. Made possible through a generous grant from the Anthony Pritzker Family Foundation, the Qloset will offer gender-affirming items including clothing, hygiene supplies, makeup and other resources that help young people feel more comfortable, confident and seen.

For youth navigating instability, belonging can be deeply practical. It can look like finding clothing that feels right. Accessing personal care items without judgment. Being surrounded by people who affirm who you are.

And sometimes, it looks like taking the stage.

We are so proud of the young people who imagined this celebration, organized it and reminded us what belonging looks like in action.

What a night celebrating the Aviva community!

Our 2026 Lifting Up LA Gala brought together the people who make this work possible—supporters, partners, elected officials and friends who believe in a stronger future for children, youth and families across Los Angeles.

We were proud to honor three extraordinary members of our community:

💙 Councilmember Nithya Raman | Community Champion Award for her leadership in strengthening communities across Los Angeles.
💙 Joyce Rey | Empowerment Award for her philanthropy, mentorship and legacy of uplifting others.
💙 Ivette Hurtado, MSW | Transformation Award for her inspiring path from Aviva alumna to community leader.

Thank you to everyone who made the evening so meaningful. We’re grateful to celebrate this work with a community that continues to show up for children, youth and families.

Watch the recap video below (and save the date for next year’s Lifting Up LA Gala: 📅 April 17, 2027).

We love this feature on Joyce Rey in the Beverly Press!

Joyce received the Empowerment Award at our Lifting Up LA Gala in May. She was chosen for her long history of helping others build resilience, stability and opportunity.

The importance of that work is something she knows well. “As a child who was adopted into a loving forever family, I know how profoundly a stable, supportive environment can shape a life,” Rey said. “I am deeply honored to receive Aviva’s Empowerment Award from an organization whose work I respect and admire. Their services are not just meaningful, they are essential and they transform lives.”

It was a joy to celebrate Joyce at this year’s Lifting Up LA Gala, and we are so glad to see her story and commitment to helping others recognized in the press.
