Jefferson County Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 3972 - Always On The Front Line Jefferson County Professional Fire Fighters is an affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

We are also a part of the Kentucky Professional Fire Fighters. Our local number is 3972, and our local was established in 1999. We represent professional fire fighters and EMS workers in suburban Jefferson County, Kentucky. We currently represent members of the Anchorage-Middletown, Buechel, Camp Taylor, Fairdale, Fern Creek, Highview, Jeffersontown, Okolona, Pleasure Ridge Park, and St. Matthews

fire districts. Our members work in suburban fire districts in Jefferson County,outside of the city of Louisville, Kentucky. The city of Louisville Fire Fighters are represented by IAFF Local 345. We strive to represent all of our members in the most professional way possible. Our focus is towards Pride, Professionalism, Dedication and Fairness. Our service goes beyond our membership as we work to improve all facets of the fire service through education and training.

It's no April Fools joke.

Cancer is one of the greatest threats facing firefighters today—and we’re taking it head on.

This week, firefighters from around Jefferson County participated in an esophageal cancer screening event in partnership with Lucid Diagnostics. With firefighters facing a 62% higher risk of developing esophageal cancer, early detection isn’t optional—it’s critical.

From the front line to prevention, we’re committed to protecting our members every step of the way. Events like this are about more than screenings—they’re about taking care of our people, our families, and our future.

We even gave the Lucid team a chance to gear up and experience a small piece of the job—safe to say, they gained a whole new respect for what our firefighters do every day!

We are proud of everyone who showed up, stepped up, and took charge of their health.

Thank you to Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS for providing the space to hold this event.

IAFF L3972 and Louisville Professional Firefighters Local #54 have a unique opportunity to provide our firefighters with a very important esophageal cancer screening event. These screenings will be held Monday, March 30 - April 1, 2026, at the AMFEMS Station #32, located at 10217 Shelbyville Road.

To participate, you must meet just 3 of the following 8 risk factors:

-Male gender
-Caucasian race
-Age 50+
-Heartburn/Reflux/GERD
-Obesity, BMI 30+
-Smoking, past or present history
-Family history of BE or EAC
-Firefighter, occupational exposure – 10+ years (volunteer or career)

House Bill 613 is being heard in the house TODAY for final passage. We urge all of our brothers and sisters to call you legislators NOW and encourage them to support this bill!

HB 613 is one of the largest funding improvements ever attempted for Chapter 75 - this will DIRECTLY benefit you and your fire districts!
