Today, I chaired the first meeting of the 2026 Legislative Council Study Committee on Floodplain Restoration.

We heard from experts representing the Wisconsin Wetlands Association, American Rivers, Wisconsin DNR, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Baxter & Woodman, and the Wisconsin Association for Floodplain, Stormwater & Coastal Management.

Thank you to all of our speakers for sharing their expertise as we begin this important work.

I enjoyed meeting the wonderful people at McKay Garden Center last week and learning more about the important work they’re doing! 🌱🐝

Protecting our environment requires us to work together and take a thoughtful approach to pesticide use including protecting pollinators, human health, and ultimately our food supply. As we work within federal regulations, it’s important that policymakers, businesses, and communities continue working together to find practical solutions that protect both people and the environment.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON THE NEW TITLE X REGULATIONS

There has been a lot of misleading information coming from Wisconsin’s Attorney General about the new federal Title X changes. So let’s look at what the new guidance actually does.

The federal administration is changing the focus of Title X. The new guidance places greater emphasis on family formation, healthy pregnancies, fertility awareness, natural family planning, infertility services, and “reproductive goals” counseling.

The new requirements also:

• Remove DEI requirements from Title X-funded programs.
• Expand education around fertility awareness and natural family planning.
• Place greater emphasis on reproductive goals counseling, including counseling related to fertility and family formation.
• Promote body literacy and fertility education and address factors affecting male and female fertility.
• Include restrictions related to gender-affirming care, consistent with the administration’s broader policy regarding federally funded health programs.

The bottom line: this is NOT removing funding for reproductive healthcare or cancer screenings.

Don't let the AG scare you into believing his narrative that fits his agenda.

The lawsuit challenges new conditions on Title X funds, which support reproductive health care, family planning, cancer screenings, and other critical preventive care for millions of Americans nationwide.

There are new updates to traffic impacts and closures related to the I-41 project, including overnight lane and ramp closures and several long-term closures.

For the most up-to-date information, including closure dates, detours and additional project impacts, visit the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's website.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing and expanding 23 miles of I-41 from four to six lanes between WIS 96 (Wisconsin Avenue) in Appleton to County F (Scheuring Road) in De Pere.

🔐 Cybersecurity Grant Opportunity for Wisconsin Local Governments

Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) and the Department of Administration’s Division of Enterprise Technology (DET) are accepting applications for the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP).

Eligible government entities can use funding for cybersecurity improvements, including multifactor authentication, managed detection and response, and endpoint detection and response.

📅 Application deadline: October 30, 2026

This is the last funding cycle without a cost-share requirement. Future cycles will require a 40% cost share.

Child Care Resource & Referral, Fox Cities provide an important service to our communities! If you have been affected by the recent, devasting storms or need information/resources when it comes to childcare, I would highly recommend you check out the CCR&Rs in our state!

CCR&R’s Emergency Child Care Assistance Fund is now available to assist families in Calumet, Outagamie, and Winnebago Counties. This fund is intended to help children remain in safe, consistent care when family is experiencing an unexpected emergency.

Examples of emergency child care needs could include:
• Temporary child care needs due to unexpected crisis
• Increased costs of relocated child care due to crisis
• Unexpected job loss & search for new employment
