Twenty-five years ago today, I was sitting in Mrs. Fenske's 3rd grade classroom at Markesan Elementary School when the news came in that the World Trade Centers were hit and that the United States was under attack. September 11th, 2001, will live forever in the minds, hearts, and souls of Americans. We must never forget the bravery shown by so many that day and the patriotism, kindness, and courage shown by so many in the aftermath. If there is even a small lesson we can take from 9/11, it should be to remember the pride we felt the days, weeks, and even years after. Even as a 9 year old, I recognized that Americans were united as one during that time; and as 34 year old today, I still believe that Americans can transcend our differences as we remain the greatest beacon of hope for the world.

This morning I attended a ceremony honoring the victims and heroes of 9/11 at the Montello American Legion. Thank you to all who came out, Montello American Legion Post 351 members, Montello (WI) Fire Dept, and Marquette County EMS for your assistance with the event.

Great news for local roads and bridges.

Four small structures in our district have been awarded 90% state funding through Wisconsin’s Local Small Structure Improvement Program:

Pacific Street — City of Ripon, Fond du Lac County
Eagle Road — Town of Mecan, Marquette County
Duck Creek Lane — Town of Newton, Marquette County
Dakota Avenue — Town of Newton, Marquette County

Work is also moving forward on three railroad bridges in Columbia County:

Inglehart Road — Town of Scott
Sterk Road — Town of Randolph
CTH A — Columbia County

Union Pacific has agreed to remove the remaining spans at Sterk Road and Inglehart Road and has selected a contractor. Both towns have passed resolutions to take ownership once the spans come down. On CTH A, the spans have already been removed and ownership has transferred to the county. Design work will restart once all three bridges are under public ownership.

This is wonderful news for Markesan District Schools and the Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area! I have seen the impact that these clubs have on our local communities and I am confident this will change the lives of students in southern Green Lake County!

🎉We're coming to Markesan! 🎉

We're thrilled to announce our partnership with Markesan District Schools to open a new Club school site in Markesan this fall!

Serving youth 5 years old - 5th grade, the new site will provide reliable after-school care, homework help, engaging Club programming, access to basic needs support and more, giving kids a safe, supportive place to learn, grow and thrive after the school day ends.

We're honored to join the Markesan community and excited for the opportunity to support local youth and families. Together, we're creating more opportunities for kids to reach their full potential and helping build a strong future for our rural communities.

Markesan, we're excited to be part of your community. We'll see you this fall! 💙
