SafeEmergency Safety-Emergency-Disaster Preparation

During and after a disaster, no one organization can meet the needs of an affected community alone, but by working together and coordinating our efforts, we (as a Net-Work of Volunteers and Organizations) can get a lot more done. VOAD does not tell organizations what to do, but helps coordinate and share information from the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to help volunteers better focus their efforts without duplication.

Schools in Florida, Georgia and Colorado are rolling out drones designed to stop active shooters before police even arrive.

Built by Austin based company Mithril Defense, the drones are called Campus Guardian Angel. They are stored in secure boxes around campus and can be deployed within seconds of a teacher raising the alarm. Once airborne, they aim to locate a shooter within 15 seconds and confront them using sirens, strobe lights and pepper gel. As a last resort, the drones can ram directly into an attacker at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.

At least nine schools are taking part in the pilot program so far. Florida allocated over $557,000 to test the system at three high schools, while Georgia approved roughly $500,000 for five schools. The goal is to buy critical time before law enforcement can respond, since most school shootings are over within two to three minutes.
