Today, we honor Juneteenth and reflect on its significance in our nation’s history. Commemorating the day enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, Juneteenth is both a celebration of resilience and a reminder of the ongoing pursuit of opportunity and justice for all.

At United Way of Dane County, we recognize that strong communities are built when every person has the opportunity to thrive. As we celebrate freedom and honor the contributions of Black individuals and communities, we are committed to expanding opportunity, removing barriers and working alongside our partners to build a Dane County where everyone feels valued, connected and supported.

If you need help navigating grief, there are resources.

Our Community is Grieving. We Are Here to Help.

This week, our community experienced a tremendous loss with the passing of Michael Johnson from the Boys & Girls Club. Many individuals, families, youth, and community members are hurting and navigating grief during this difficult time.

At Anesis Therapy, we believe that healing does not happen in isolation, it happens in community. We heal by sharing our stories, leaning on one another, and creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported. During times of loss, it is important to remember that you do not have to carry your grief alone.

Our Drop-In Clinics are available for anyone who needs support, a listening ear, or help processing their grief.

United Way of Dane County joins our community in mourning the loss of Michael Johnson, a visionary and dynamic community leader.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County has been a steadfast partner with United Way since 1998, and we have seen first-hand the impact Michael's leadership has had on the lives of countless community members, particularly youth and families.

Our thoughts are with Michael's wife Toya, their family and everyone at Boys & Girls Clubs during this difficult time. We know the board and team will move the mission forward and we stand ready to support, building on Michael's extraordinary community leadership.

Congratulations to our 2026 Spring Boardwalk Academy Cohort on completing their training!

These incredible community leaders are already making a positive impact in Dane County and will continue the important work of sharing their perspectives and stories to strengthen our community so that all can thrive.

A huge thank you to the sponsor that makes this program possible, TruStage!

Boardwalk Academy is now accepting applications for the 2026 Fall Cohort!

Boardwalk Academy is a 9-week development series that strengthens the interpersonal and professional communication skills of non-traditional community leaders, whose critical voices and perspectives are often absent from decision-making tables.
