We are excited to welcome the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra back for this season’s Concerts on the Square beginning tomorrow, June 24th from 7 PM to 9 PM! The 2026 season of Concerts on the Square will be held on the following Wednesdays: June 24th, July 1st, July 8th, July 15th July 22rd, July 29th, with weekly rain dates each Thursday.

As we kick off this concert season, we would like to remind visitors of some key notes to make their experience smooth:

▪️Capitol Square closes from South Hamilton to North Hamilton at 3:00 PM the day of the concert. We encourage visitors to utilize one of the nearby public parking options here: https://www.cityofmadison.com/parking/garages-lots/current-hourly-parking-availability

▪️Blankets may be placed on the Capitol lawn beginning at 3:00 PM on show dates.

▪️Concerts on the Square is one of the few events that we allow alcohol to be consumed on the Capitol grounds. Please help us out by keeping any alcoholic beverages outside of the Capitol building and disposing of them properly when they are empty. All open alcoholic beverages must be consumed or disposed of by 9:30 PM.

▪️The Capitol building will close immediately following the intermission.

▪️If unexpected severe weather occurs during the concerts, the Capitol may be re-opened for emergency shelter.

▪️If you need assistance, look for one of our friendly uniformed officers. They are always happy to assist.

▪️If you see something suspicious, please say something by calling State Capitol Police at 608-266-8797, or dial 911 for an emergency.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Join us TOMORROW, June 24 at 7:00 PM on the King Street corner of Capitol Square for the official season kickoff of Concerts on the Square, "Joel & John: Piano Men Legends."

Jeans ’n Classics joins us on stage for a hit-packed night of Billy Joel and Elton John favorites. From "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" to "My Life" and "Bennie and the Jets," audiences can expect big hooks and even bigger choruses. With a crowd that’s bound to know every word—this will be quite a way to kick off the season.

Safety Saturday is almost here! Join us on June 13 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Capitol Square. Stop by our booth to meet our staff, see our K-9 team in action, check out our squad cars, and learn how we protect the Capitol and state facilities across Wisconsin.

This year, we're also pleased to offer FREE gun locks to the public. Firearm safety starts with secure storage, and we want to make it easier for families in our community to keep their loved ones safe.

Safety Saturday is an annual event hosted by our partners at the City of Madison Fire Department that brings thousands of community members to Capitol Square and the Dane County Farmers' Market for hands-on education about injury prevention, safe decision-making, and everyday safety tools like seat belts, bike helmets, and smoke alarms.

We hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Lieutenant Mickael Price on graduating with Class 12 of the Wisconsin Command College!

The Wisconsin Command College is a nationally accredited leadership and management development program and a joint venture of the Wisconsin Department of Justice and UW-Madison.

This intense, six-week in-residence program prepares law enforcement leaders for the challenges facing their profession.

Upon completion, graduates are recognized as a Certified Public Manager by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. That means Lt. Price is now a CPM, a well-earned credential that reflects his dedication to leadership and public service.

We invest in people first, things second. It's who we are. Congratulations, Lt. Price!

From the Capitol to Green Bay... and beyond! Our Unmanned Aircraft Team recently had the opportunity to support the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) with flights over iconic Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Missions like this demonstrate the unique expertise of our team, coupled with our statewide jurisdiction, in helping ensure communities across Wisconsin are prepared for whatever comes their way.

The technology is great, the location even better, but our people make us the best.

Did you know the Wisconsin State Capitol Police has been serving the people of Wisconsin since 1897? That's more than 125 years of protecting this iconic landmark and the individuals who work and visit here every day.

We invite you to take a look at the history behind our department and learn how we've grown and evolved over the generations: https://statecapitolpolice.wi.gov/Pages/History.aspx

The Wisconsin State Capitol Police Department is one of the oldest police departments in the State of Wisconsin. The first of three Capitol buildings erected in Madison was constructed in 1837, when Wisconsin was still a territory that covered modern-day Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and parts o...

This week, we observe National Police Week. For us, it began last Friday with the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial, Inc. ceremony, honoring Wisconsin officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. It was a powerful and humbling reminder of why we serve.

National Police Week has been observed every May since 1962, when President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the surrounding week as a time for the nation to honor those who wear the badge. Each year, law enforcement communities across the country pause to remember the fallen and recognize those who continue to serve.

We are honored to have the memorial located on the N Hamilton Street corner of the beautiful State Capitol building. We invite you to visit and take a moment to honor each of the 294 names etched into the stone.

Our Capitol Police officers walk past the memorial each day, and we will never forget those who went before us.

This week, we proudly recognized two incredible members of our team for their years of dedicated service to the State of Wisconsin. Captain Abby Onsgard was honored for 15 years of service, and Chief David Erwin was recognized for 30 years of state service which began with Wisconsin State Patrol, and continues with State Capitol Police since 2012.

We are grateful for everything they bring to this team and to the people of Wisconsin every single day. Congratulations!
