At OEOF, we tackle NH's biggest challenges—high living costs, an unfair tax system, the housing crisis + underfunded public services—by pushing for bold tax reforms + people-first budgets that invest in schools, health care, housing + thriving communities

We’ve said it before + we’ll say it again—hopefully for the last time:

HB 155 would hand out another costly corporate tax giveaway while everyday Granite Staters struggle with rising housing, child care, health care + property tax costs. Enough is enough.

Stay tuned to see whether months of emails, calls, trainings + organizing pay off after today’s Committee of Conference.

Team—this is our last chance to stop HB 155 once + for all.

Today, negotiations over the corporate tax cut bill hit an impasse after Senator Tim Lang (R) called further corporate tax cuts “fiscally imprudent" + stated the Senate is “pretty much opposed” to lowering the Business Enterprise Tax rate right now.

Tomorrow, lawmakers return for a final vote on the bill, as conservatives in the House continue efforts to ram the bill through with a corporate tax cut we will have to pay for.

Today is the day to stop that: https://bio.site/oeof

This month, Granite Staters responded to an InDepthNH callout about taxes + the economy—and the responses were powerful.

People spoke openly about rising property taxes, unaffordable housing, underfunded schools + the growing feeling that everyday people are being asked to carry more and more of the load while wealthy interests get more tax breaks. Granite Staters are connecting the dots.

When lawmakers hand out more tax breaks to wealthy interests + large corporations, the costs don’t disappear. They get pushed onto everyone else.

MacKenzie Nicholson of breaks it down: Granite Staters are being asked to deal with higher property taxes, crushing child care costs + rising everyday expenses—while conservative politicians fight to give greedy CEOs another corporate tax break.

At what point do we start listening to the people actually holding this state together? Our moms, our teachers, our workers, our caregivers...

We need an economy that works for working people. And lawmakers that will do what it takes to pass legislation that will lower costs for them.

After months of organizing, public pressure, testimony, calls + emails, we are in a real position to stop this corporate bailout + property tax hike. But Conservative House leadership is gearing up to revive the bill + deliver for their corporate backers.

You can't make this up. It's getting truly absurd how far the rich + powerful will go to use our taxes to fund their grifts.

While gas is averaging $4.50/gallon + working people are desperate for some relief, spending $1 billion of our taxpayer dollars on a new ballroom is a new low for our rigged economy.

If it feels like you’re working harder than ever, doing everything right, trying to save money or simply stay afloat—and still falling further behind—you’re not imagining it.

Since 2015, NH working families lost $17,349 in leftover income after major essentials. At the very same time, the number of millionaires in the state surged by more than 200%.

And as wealth at the top exploded, conservative lawmakers eliminated one of the only taxes primarily paid by the wealthy: the Interest & Dividends tax.

People aren’t struggling because they've failed. They’re struggling because the economy is works better for the wealthy than it does for everyone else.

For 6 months Granite Staters have been making it loud + clear: HB 155 is NOT for us.

Mary Beth from Merrimack lays it out crystal clear: after years of corporate tax cuts, we’re still being told to give them more—while our property taxes keep rising to make up the difference.

And for what? These tax cuts haven’t lowered costs, strengthened our communities, or meaningfully grown our economy for working people.

Enough is enough. We demand policies that will support our workforce. Policies that will close the gap. Policies that will build healthier + more stable communities in our state. And we demand leaders that will prioritize this vision above all else.

Want to know what was reaffirmed over the past several weeks? Organizing works + matters.

Your emails to Senators reshaped the narrative. A training became an op-ed in two major newspapers. A local leader sign-on letter reached nearly 15,000 people online. A Tax Day hearing drew unexpected public engagement. A Substack post got picked up nationally.

Our movement is only as strong as the people who show up, connect, learn, organize + speak out. When we do that, suddenly the conversation starts moving far beyond one event, one room, or one organization.

Thank you, sincerely, to everyone who helped make these wins for our movement (big + small) possible. Let’s keep it going.

Senator Lang (R) —a strong advocate for HB 155—just called the bill “fiscally imprudent.”

A stunning reversal.

After months of pushing for another corporate tax cut, even supporters of the bill are now acknowledging the reality: handing out another costly tax cut to large multinational corporations while costs rise for everyone else is reckless policy.
