Hi, I’m Lindsey 👋 Got questions about foster parenting in New Hampshire? Ask away!

A little on me: I spent a decade as a foster parent in NH, I adopted my oldest child from foster care, I have worked in several capacities on child protection cases, and now help license foster homes.

Curious? Thinking about it? Just wondering? Drop your questions below or contact me at [email protected] or 603-540-8172

Meet a real foster parent!!
Abbey has been opening her heart and home for over 16 years, starting as a general level foster home licensed with the State of NH, and now as an ISO-level foster parent with Independent Services Network. Abbey creates a space where children feel safe, supported, and truly seen. With a deep well of experience and compassion, Abbey has supported many children and their families along their journeys, always leading with empathy and understanding. Abbey shines as a powerful advocate—not just for the youth in her care, but for their families as well—building strong, respectful partnerships with biological families that help children stay connected to their roots. Her warm, collaborative approach is a beautiful example of how foster parenting can uplift everyone involved, creating brighter, more hopeful outcomes for the children she so thoughtfully supports.

Meet a real foster parent: Jennifer has been a foster parent for over 15 years and has supported countless children through respite placements, emergency placements, long term placements and adoption.

Jennifer’s journey as a foster parent is defined by extraordinary dedication. She has opened her home—and her heart—to children regardless of their care needs, offering them not only safety and structure, but a profound sense of belonging.

Jennifer’s home is a place where children are valued, where routines create security, and where each child’s unique story is honored. She has cared for youth with significant behavioral and developmental challenges, and she has done so with a calm steadiness that reflects years of experience, deep empathy, and a true calling to this work. Jennifer’s ability to adapt, to advocate, and to remain grounded through even the toughest days makes her an exceptional caregiver.

When you decide to become a foster home in New Hampshire, there are two paths you can take—and neither is “better,” they’re just different missions.
One option is to license directly with the state and welcome children whose needs fall within typical, general care. These are kids who haven’t yet been identified as needing extra supports, but who still need safety, stability, and someone in their corner.
The other path is to become an ISO foster home through an agency that will walk alongside you. This route supports children who do have identified needs—medical, behavioral, educational, legal, or a mix of all of the above. These kids often need a little more advocacy, structure, and teamwork, but you’re not doing it alone.
The licensing process is the same either way. What’s different is the calling. It’s not about capability—it’s about where your heart pulls you. Both paths change lives. The question is simply: which one is yours?

I’m Lindsey—and foster care has been a very real (and sometimes very chaotic) love story in my life for over a decade. I was a foster parent for 10 years, and my last two years I served as an ISO-level foster parent supporting teenagers (aka amazing humans with big feelings, big stories, and unmatched snack needs). I also adopted from foster care, which means my heart has been stretched, tested, and grown in ways I never could’ve imagined!

I decided to make foster care my work too (cause life wasn’t crazy enough already). I started in 2017 at Independent Services Network (ISN) as a parent educator, worked my way up to case manager, then took a detour in 2019 to serve as a Child Protection Service Worker (CPSW) with New Hampshire DCYF. In 2023, I found my way back home to ISN—where I now recruit, license, and support foster homes (aka cheerlead, problem-solve, educate, and occasionally normalize the “what did I just sign up for?” moments).

I created this page because foster care is confusing, emotional, beautiful, hard, funny, heartbreaking, and hopeful—and people deserve honest conversations about it. No sugarcoating. No scare tactics. Just real talk, real support, and real humans doing their best.

If you’ve ever been curious about foster care, thought “I could never do that,” wondered “should I?”, or already know you want to—REACH OUT!!! Ask questions. Message me. And drop a comment below telling me what you want to know about foster care.
