Residents.

Our Emergency Management Coordinator, DPW and Police Department are monitoring the weather closely.

To answer recently asked questions:

The main factor in lowering the flood gate is the cresting of the banks by the Ohio River, which is in the neighborhood of 32’. The gate is lowered at 28’ That lowering will give an additional 15’ of flood protection to the area of the bottoms. The last time that equipment was needed was 2004; the gate is regularly tested.

With that being said:

In regards to the last heavy rain incident, the river was at 18’ which was not even on the spectrum of lowering the gate.

The issue that the Borough experienced was power to operate the pump house.

At this time the pump house is fully operational and ready to go.

Please navigate the weather safely and do not put yourselves or family at unnecessary risk if you do not need to leave your homes during torrential downpours like we have recently seen.

Residents:

We are in dire need of several Crossing Guards, two to be exact for the 2026 - 2027 school year. This will help keep our neighborhood children safe after exiting the bus.

Individuals need to be ACT 34 cleared; P.A.T.C.H. (State Police) cleared, ACT 151 (Child Abuse) cleared; ACT 114 (FBI) cleared in order to successfully complete the application process. We can help and walk you through the process, and the fees are all reimbursable to you once completed.

Applications can be picked up at the Police Department

Thank you in advance!!

A message form Chief Deliman:

I want to pass on some great news, K9 Roman has been chosen to part of the National Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial, 2027 Dogs of Law Enforcement calendar. I cannot thank each of you enough for taking the time and voting for Roman. Although this was a national competition, I know many of you passed on the link to your friends and family to vote for K9 Roman and there is no way for me to adequately express my thanks for your support. To some, this may not seem like a big deal getting K9 Roman in a calendar, but K9 Roman and McKees Rocks Police Department will be included in a national publication for something positive, and that is all in part to each of you. Thank you all again for your time and effort to make this happen and with your continued support of the K9 program.

Sincerely,

Chief Rick Deliman McKees Rocks PD
