Today, we honor the families of America’s fallen service members whose sacrifice continues long after their loved one's service has ended.

Gold Star families carry a legacy of courage, service, and sacrifice. On Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our nation and recognize the strength of the families who carry their memory forward.

NSA Mechanicsburg honors and remembers our Gold Star families today and every day. Their sacrifice is woven into the history of our Navy and our nation. We honor their loved ones by remembering their service and remaining committed to the mission they supported.

Thank you to everyone who participated in NSA Mechanicsburg's Fall Base Cleanup on Sept. 23. 🍁

Employees from across the installation stepped away from their desks and workspaces to spend time outdoors, connect with coworkers, and help pick up litter around the base. Whether motivated by environmental stewardship, volunteerism, or simply the opportunity to get outside and lend a hand, each participant contributed to the effort.

Small actions add up. By working together to care for the installation, volunteers helped make a positive impact across the base and demonstrated the teamwork that supports our mission every day. 🍂

NSA Mechanicsburg employees gathered Sept. 22 for an All Hands Call that marked an important milestone for the installation: the first command-wide gathering to include our new NAVFAC teammates as part of the installation workforce.

The event provided an opportunity to review organizational structures, introduce team members, and highlight accomplishments from fiscal year 2026. The addition of public works personnel follows a Navy-wide realignment that places installation public works teams under the authority of local installation commanding officers, strengthening support for mission readiness and day-to-day installation operations.

Commanding Officer Capt. Geno Dawson also recognized employees for their years of federal service:
5 Years: Alexander Librero and Lillie Williams
10 Years: Bridget Duvall
35 Years: Gerald Burkett

Thank you to all who attended and to the dedicated civilian and military workforce whose contributions help keep NSA Mechanicsburg ready to support the fleet, the warfighter, and our mission every day.

On Sept. 11, NSA Mechanicsburg personnel came together for a day of remembrance during the 9/11 Flag Run hosted by MWR Fitness.

Beginning at the installation's Sept. 11 Memorial, participants signed up for one-hour intervals to keep the American flag moving continuously from morning colors to evening colors. Throughout the day, individuals and teams walked and ran the route, carrying the flag in honor of those who lost their lives and all who answered the call in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.

The event began with the Strong Seniors fitness class and concluded with active and reserve component Chief selects carrying the flag during the final hour. Along the way, participants were joined by coworkers, supporters, and passing motorists who showed their encouragement with a wave or a honk.

More than two decades later, the legacy of 9/11 continues to remind us of the importance of service, resilience, and coming together as a community. We remember the lives lost, honor the sacrifices made, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the mission and readiness of our Navy team.

One last splash before the school year got into full swing! ☀️

The Child Development Center's End of Summer Bash was filled with and undersea theme and had smiles, bubbles, water play, temporary tattoos, sea creature adoptions, creative coral reef creations, and an obstacle course challenge with Maddie from Fit Fridays. Families also enjoyed hamburgers grilled by Command Master Chief Scott Reed and CDC Director Gina Petrone.

While summer *officially* hangs on a little longer into this month, this was the perfect way to celebrate the end of the summer season of fun, friendship, and memories for our military children and families.

Supporting military families means supporting the next generation, one adventure at a time. 🫧

Throughout the summer, preschoolers at the Child Development Center looked forward to Fit Fridays with Maddie, a collaborative program between the CDC and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation.

Each Friday, Recreation Assistant and certified elementary physical education instructor Maddie Goretzke led fun, age-appropriate fitness activities that kept children moving while developing coordination, balance, and motor skills. Weekly themes brought new adventures, and during Super Hero Friday, participants tackled obstacle courses, completed fitness challenges, and raced through relays during a morning of active outdoor play.

Programs like Fit Fridays helped build healthy habits, confidence, and teamwork while supporting the well-being of military children and families. By investing in quality programs that strengthen our Navy community, Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg remains committed to supporting warfighter readiness through the services and resources that help families thrive.

What does a visit from the Region Commander look like?

Last week, Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Rear Adm. Stephen Barnett, Mrs. Naeema Barnett, Command Master Chief Pat Tummins, and members of the region staff spent the day touring Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg.

The visit provided an opportunity to see firsthand the people, programs, and services that make up installation staff, support our military community, and contribute to mission readiness every day. From family programs and recreation facilities to emergency services and installation operations, the tour highlighted the many ways NSA Mechanicsburg delivers in support of Sailors, families, tenants, and the Fleet.

Thank you to Rear Adm. and Mrs. Barnett, Command Master Chief Tummins, and the region staff for spending the day with us in Pennsylvania, and for taking the time to learn more about our installation and the dedicated professionals who support the Navy mission every day.

On Friday, Aug. 14 there will be a series of cannon fire onboard NSA Mechanicsburg.

This is ceremonial, and is in conjunction with a change of command and retirement ceremony.

Installation personnel and nearby residents can expect to hear a series of volleys around 10am. This is planned, and is not a cause for concern.

The School Liaison invites students ages 8–18 to participate in a Youth Resilience & Self-Care workshop on Thursday, Aug. 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This interactive session will help participants explore healthy self-care habits, develop resilience skills, and learn practical strategies for managing stress, building confidence, and maintaining overall well-being.
