On Friday, Aug. 14 there will be a series of cannon fire onboard NSA Mechanicsburg.

This is ceremonial, and is in conjunction with a change of command and retirement ceremony.

Installation personnel and nearby residents can expect to hear a series of volleys around 10am. This is planned, and is not a cause for concern.

Installation personnel have been participating in their annual Final Exercise Problem (FEP) as conducted by Fleet Forces Command and Commander, Navy Installations Command this week.

Most noteworthy, the base will be conducting a security exercise July 30.

Residents near the base may hear use of the giant voice, sirens across the installation, and an increase in police activity associated with the exercise. This is no cause for alarm.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue our efforts to train like we fight.

Last week youth participants joined the School Liaison Program for a hands-on Auto Skills Workshop at Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg.

During the workshop, Auto Skills Manager Dave Swab shared important vehicle maintenance and safety tips to consider before a road trip. Students learned how to inspect key vehicle components, including batteries, oil levels, headlights, windshield wipers, and tires, as well as the importance of maintaining a vehicle maintenance log. Participants also learned how to identify proper lift points using a vehicle's owner's manual and how to locate, retrieve, and change a spare tire.

From routine maintenance checks to roadside preparedness, the workshop gave participants valuable knowledge they can carry with them for years to come.

The Auto Skills Workshop is just one of many opportunities offered this summer through the School Liaison. Families can also look forward to the upcoming Back to School Bash and Resource Fair on Aug. 6 and the Youth Resilience & Self-Care workshop on Aug. 13, both designed to help military-connected students and families prepare for a successful school year.

Thanks to all who came out for the session, and to the Auto Skills Hobby Shop for hosting.

The School Liaison is hosting another fun opportunity to learn something new this summer!

On Thursday, July 23 from 10am – 12pm join us at the Auto Skills Hobby Shop.

Children ages 8 and up will have the opportunity to learn the parts of a vehicle, how to change a tire and check fluids, understand a vehicle’s safety lights, how to check fluids, and emergency items to keep in a vehicle.

This is a great opportunity for all, but especially those soon-to-be drivers or gear heads who love learning how things work.

Share with your friends, and please RSVP at the QR code if you plan to attend!

Recently, the command hosted members of the Pennsylvania Military Community Enhancement Commission (PMCEC) for visits to the three Navy installation sites across Pennsylvania - the Philadelphia Navy Yard, NSA Philadelphia, and NSA Mechanicsburg.

Dr. Annette Nance, Director of PMCEC, Sue Suleski, Director of Operations and Strategic Programs, PMCEC staff members, and the appointed commissioners for the installations toured the sites and received a command brief from Commanding Officer Capt. Geno Dawson highlighting the critical work performed throughout the regions.

At NSA Philadelphia, the group visited Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support to gain a firsthand look at capabilities that support the warfighter around the globe. Highlights included the Flag Room, where presidential flags are hand-sewn and military colors are produced for use throughout the Department of War, as well as the Product Test Center Analytical Lab, where materials undergo rigorous testing to ensure quality and performance. The group also viewed key installation infrastructure, including the boiler system that supports operations across much of the installation.

The tour provided an opportunity to showcase the Navy's mission in Pennsylvania and the vital contributions of tenant commands, civilian personnel, and installation infrastructure that enable operational readiness.

PMCEC serves as an advocate for military installations, organizations, and defense-related stakeholders across the Commonwealth, helping strengthen the relationship between Pennsylvania communities and the missions they support.

The Navy's footprint in Pennsylvania delivers effects far beyond the Commonwealth, providing critical capabilities that support the Fleet, the warfighter, and national defense around the world.

Please join us in congratulating the command’s newest advanced Sailors!

⚓ Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Aaliyah Garcia advanced to her current rank.
⚓ Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Luke Heffner advanced to his current rank.
⚓ Aviation Support Equipment Technician 2nd Class Kameron Williams advanced to his current rank.
⚓ Master-at-Arms 3rd Class Atiyana Boyd advanced to her current rank.

Frocking ceremonies were held last week at NSA Mechanicsburg and NSA Philadelphia to recognize this important milestone in their Navy careers.

The unique nature of a command spanning three sites across Pennsylvania and more than 100 miles didn't prevent shipmates from sharing in the moment. Through video teleconferencing, Sailors and leadership from across the command came together to celebrate these well-earned advancements and congratulate the newly frocked Sailors on their achievement.

Bravo Zulu to each of these Sailors on their continued professional growth and commitment to the mission.

Readiness is built through training and strong partnerships. Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg recently conducted a comprehensive security exercise onboard the installation alongside local and county law enforcement partners, testing coordinated response procedures and strengthening relationships that are critical during real-world emergencies.

The exercise brought together installation security personnel and firefighters with officers from several neighboring municipalities and the Cumberland County Special Response Team (SRT), providing an opportunity to validate mutual support agreements, practice communication and coordination, and refine response procedures across agencies.

Training events like these help ensure that military and civilian partners are prepared to respond quickly and effectively to incidents that may impact the installation and surrounding community.

Thank you to all participating agencies and personnel for their professionalism and commitment to keeping our installation, workforce, and community safe.
