Happy Juneteenth! Today we celebrate freedom and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans across the United States. Below is a photo of Joseph and Elmira Polk, who lived in Liberia near Stoneboro, and many have had fond memories of this family. Both of Joseph's grandmothers escaped from slavery and came to Mercer County via the Underground Railroad.

The Mercer County Historical Society & Museum (MCHS) is excited to announce our participation in a special fundraising event sponsored by the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH. It’s called “PA OH Gives” and/or “Giving Week.” We would like to take this opportunity to graciously ask for your support!

For the past 80 years, our mission has been to serve our community by preserving and promoting Mercer County history. Your donation enables us to:
• Preserve/restore our historic buildings and sites
• Maintain/operate our museum and care for precious artifacts
• Expand educational programs and public exhibits
• Archive rare photographs and manuscripts for future
generations
• Pass on Mercer County history to future generations

A percentage of the donations will be matched! This is a great time to donate because your funds will go even farther. Please be assured that we are committed to using donated funds in the most efficient and responsible way possible.

Your generosity makes a difference! Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us continue our work. With your donation, you’re not just giving to a museum — you’re investing in the legacy of our community.

Brothers John Inman and Tim Bennett made a 250th presentation for the Mercer County Historical Society discussing the connections between the American Revolutionary War Soldier and the Union Civil War Soldier

We have our first winner of the Mercer County Historical Society’s Self-Guided Tour!

Congratulations to Mary Mitchell of Greenville for visiting multiple historical sites and societies on the tour and winning a free t-shirt!
