It was a glorious moment yesterday when the Pride Flag was raised above Meriden. We can be proud to live in a city that celebrates its diversity and stands strong for our LGBTQ+ community. Special appreciation goes to City Councilor (and State Representative candidate!) Chad Cardillo and Meriden Pride Chair Branddon Arroyo, who both led the campaign in 2024 to recognize June as Pride Month in Meriden, including the flying of the Pride Flag for the entire month.

Wednesday night, Democrats proudly, unanimously endorsed candidates for State Representative in Meriden’s three House Districts: Mike Quinn (82nd), Chad Cardillo (83rd), and Hilda Santiago (84th). Delegates from Meriden, Cheshire and Berlin (portions of which comprise the 83rd) came together to select Chad to run to succeed Jack Fazzino, who is running for State Senate. Meriden DTC members from Mike and Hilda’s districts chose each of them to run for re-election. Meriden residents will be fortunate to have such worthy, effective public servants representing us in Hartford.

CONGRATULATIONS, JACK FAZZINO!!! Last night, State Representative Jack Fazzino won the Democratic endorsement for State Senator in the 13th Senate District. Convention delegates voted 36-14 to nominate Jack to represent Meriden, Cheshire, Middletown and Middlefield, the seat of the retiring Jan Hochadel. Jack already has proved himself to be an exemplary lawmaker, a fierce advocate for his constituents, and a tireless campaigner. We eagerly look forward to his many future years of public service.

AN EVENING WITH WILLIAM TONG: Standing Up to Donald Trump and Corporate Law-breakers – Tues. May 12, 7pm, Dawg House

Six things you should know about Attorney General William Tong:

• William Tong is the 25th Attorney General to serve Connecticut since the office was established by the state constitution in 1897. He was first elected in 2018, re-elected in 2022, and is currently running for his third term.

• He is the first Asian American elected to any state office in Connecticut history, and the first Chinese American to be elected Attorney General nationwide.

• Tong grew up working side-by-side with his immigrant parents in their family’s Chinese restaurant.

• Attorney General Tong previously practiced for 18 years as a litigator in both state and federal courts. He served for 12 years as a State Representative in the Connecticut General Assembly, where he was House Chairman of the Judiciary Committee as well as the Banking Committee.

• William Tong has led national litigation to block the abuses of the Trump administration and hold mega-corporations accountable for their wrongdoing. He serves as an executive officer of the National Association of Attorneys General.

• He and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Stamford with their three children and way too many pets. In quieter moments, Tong likes to fly fish (and tie flies), try all the great foods and restaurants across Connecticut, and is an amateur carpenter and cook.
