Milwaukee Habitat

Milwaukee Habitat Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity transforms lives and our city by providing simple, decent and affordable housing for Milwaukee families in need. We build and renovate homes for families and individuals in need of sustainable housing.
Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) increases affordable homeownership and decent housing in targeted neighborhods. This contributes, in collaboration with community partners, to transformed neighborhoods as measured by economic and quality of life indicators. In addition to new home construction, MHFH offers repair of existing homes through its A Brush With Kindness program (ABWK). Lastly, MHFH is engaged in the global effort to eliminate poverty housing and sends 10% of all unrestricted gifts to international Habitat affiliates in El Salvador and Kyrgyzstan.

With less funding, and a changing landscape, many area nonprofits are hurting. Even so, they're continuing on, as many deal with undeserved or vulnerable populations.

Our Deconstruction team has been in here all week salvaging rare architectural treasures, ensuring they stay out of the landfill and in the local community! Posts coming throughout the day of what's in stock on our Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ReStore page!

This week, a team from Habitat for Humanity's ReStore has been salvaging details from a 1928 lakefront home, designed by architect Richard Philipp, for sale in its Milwaukee stores, where, hopefully, the items will find new uses in other buildings and, at the same, will help fund Habitat's mission t...

04/09/2020

UPDATE: All three of our Milwaukee County ReStore locations remain closed. We are hoping to reopen our Wauwatosa ReStore after April 24th, when the Governor’s current stay-at-home order is set to expire. We will be enhancing safety measures to include online shopping opportunities with curbside pickup and limiting the number of shoppers in the store at a time. As it becomes safe to do so, we will reopen our other Milwaukee County locations.

We are working with our staff to try and resume donation pick-ups (including the scheduling of future pickups) as soon as possible. If you have donations for ReStore, we will need your support more than ever once we are able to safely reopen. Please consider starting a “spring cleaning” collection in your home or garage where you can store items until we’re able to pick them up.

Visit milwaukeerestore.org for the latest updates on when and how we will resume sales and donations. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience through these uncertain times.

Sharon's Heart-felt Thank You

Happy #GoodNewsTues! Here's a little good news for your day!

Sharon is a Milwaukeean through-and-through, having lived in our community for more than 30 years. Because of people like you, Sharon has a safe, affordable place to call home during this pandemic. After her kids moved out, she downsized and moved into a low-income housing development. It was what she could afford at the time but, unbeknown to her, it wasn’t safe. Every time it rained, water rushed down into her kitchen. She pleaded with her landlord to fix the issue, but it was no use.

After completing hundreds of hours helping to build her home and the homes of her neighbors, Sharon stood in her living room with the keys for the first time. Sharon realized a dream she’d never thought possible. She had become a homeowner.

If it’s within your capacity, please consider making a gift to help more families like Sharon. With one of our largest fundraisers temporarily closed (Habitat ReStore) our friends at Accunet Mortgage stepped up to help. They’re matching all donations up to $25,000. Double your gift today!

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update - Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity

CLOSING UPDATE: Effective Wednesday, March 18, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity will close our Milwaukee headquarters, close our Habitat ReStores (3 Milwaukee County locations) and close all construction sites.

Essential tasks will continue to be performed remotely. We are constantly evaluating the situation, in the hopes that we will reopen on April 1st at the earliest. Please continue to check our website for the most up to date information. We are taking this unprecedented step in order to protect our staff, volunteers, donors and customers, the families we seek to serve and the city that we love.

As many organizations have done, we will continue to pay our staff during this suspension. If members of the community had intended to give to Milwaukee Habitat-if you intended to volunteer, to visit our ReStores, or donate – they can show your support with a donation now (at milwaukeehabitat.org), to keep us building a better city as we face down this pandemic.

Habitat ReStore will be rescheduling or cancelling donation pickups through March 31st. Our online donation pickup scheduling system will remain open through the shutdown, with plans to resume pickups beginning April 1st. If circumstances change, we will contact scheduled donors immediately. Questions about cancellations or rescheduling should be directed to [email protected].

More details here:

As coronavirus cases continue to rise in our surrounding area, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity is evaluating the progress daily and is creating a contingency plan should our operations need to adapt. We are first and foremost concerned for the health of our staff, homeowners, volunteers, shoppers and...
